It is one thing for the government to enact a law, it is a another thing for that government to follow through and actually ensure compliance with that law! undecided

If u try to fight, they will bring out tribal card... Go back to ur Anambra and work, leave our Lagos alone....

Nigeria is not one, so fighting abroad for ur right is easy than fighting for ur right in ur own country
You are a slow poke, how does foreigners and Nigerian employers oppresing Nigerian workers relate to your "go back to Anambra rant?". I guess u lack the mental capacity to digest the statement made by the guy you quoted.

A tough guy is good to find. See the way guys are using their Nigerian sense to fight for their right abroad.
That's why i advised a friend that he should pray to have a tough one among his children, because he may need him/her one day.

Too many Nigerians are fickle minded. I was in a foreign country with my wife when an airline cancelled our flight with no advance notice, no refund, nothing. We had to pay for another flight home.

By the time I took up that airline with the regulatory authorities, they were practically begging me with free return ticket for me and my wife which we duly cashed in on the next time we travelled there.

If you know your rights and take the time to enforce them, you will come out winners all the time. Go and read this thread and see how a Nigerian like you and I caused Indonesian airport officials to get into serious trouble with their government:

We be Naija. We don't take bullsit (apologies to Cobhams) from nobody!

Nice work OP but I witnessed this discrimination first hand and apart from that I have met few locals and there was this particular fat swine that never said anything good about Nigeria except for that our girls are good in bed, I know there are lots of scammers forming jobs recruitment agency but then you see those Indian firms and Bengali firms chai, Any which way the truth is the UAE of 5 years ago was more favorable than the present UAE,
Those nurturing the thoughts of coming to UAE to work, should think twice or better yet opt for somewhere better

What makes me laugh is Nigerians fighting discrimination in another man's country and bringing out anti discrimination laws for that country

In their country called Nigeria, foreigners and Nigerian employers oppress and discriminate against employees but you will never see a Nigerian fight or show them the labour law against discrimination.

Nigerians are one set of funny creatures
Reason being that Nigeria problems are overwhelming.

Which of the problems are we to protest on?
Corruption?
Youth unemployment?
Police brutality and extortion?
Deplorable infrastructural facilities (No power, good roads or water)?
Insensitive leadership?
Kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, ritual killing?
Proliferation of scammers?
Ethnic wars?
etcetera.

We are in hot soup, and there is no rescue in sight.

I sigh.

In as much as I have nothing against the write up and that the poser is right to an extent, I make bold to say that there exist serious discrimination against Nigerians. Those Scam Recruitment agencies have existed for a long time and unless you’re new to Dubai, you can’t fall for their tricks and gimmicks. They use different company names and locations as well as giving you assurances of non existent jobs. That’s a story for another day.

The truth is our image has been laundered in that country that no reputable firm wants to employ Nigerians. Even the banks he talked of, how many Nigerians are working in those banks? The few ones that were employed are paid far less than their contemporaries in the bank on the same level. It took a friend 3 months of rigorous and painstaking security clearance before he could resume work in January after having been employed in October last year. To imagine he was highly recommended by a professor in one of the universities after working for over 8 years in one of the nigerian banks. It’s the same reason why Nigerians can’t open simple bank account in UAE because we are a high risk country.

Even some Landlords are wary of given their apartment to Nigerians because of the deeds of ‘Our heroes past’ who have left a sweet legacy for us undecided

The fact some people are lucky to have good and reasonable employers or work in an unbiased environment doesn’t erode the discrimination prevalent in Dubai especially to Nigerians be it open or discreet. Dubai has always had laws but has it stopped prostitution which is notorious in the city, bribe accepted by the police, indiscriminate practices of firms and business owners? Or you think they don’t know all these? People should look for jobs elsewhere and free dubai for now, it’s really not worth the stress unless you have a job waiting for you

There was a time we went for an interview after being shortlisted and one of the interviewer asked me my country and why it wasn’t written on my cv. I smiled and asked her if I would have been shortlisted or invited if they knew I was Nigerian? She replied maybe cheesy cheesy I didn’t get the job but you understand my point.

These employers have a software they use to sieve through thousands of Resumes to weed out what they don’t want. It’s always better to have an opportunity to show yourself and impress than to be weeded out because of your country or birth. There are reputable agencies that do offer legit jobs though subject to the payment of some fees. Jobs like Security, sales, factory workers, receptionist and some other menial jobs. The pay isn’t really much but some people don’t mind. To them it’s better than nothing

In reference to an earlier post stating that a dubai company mentioned all Africans except Nigerians, I would like to make something very clear as my 9 years in the UAE has all been jobs with the locals in unimaginable places.

First, the government recently enacted a law prohibiting such, offenders will be fine 1 million dirham. (100 million naira).

2. So many fake agencies like the one posted on that thread are only scammers who change offices on daily bases after accumulating consultation fee from job seekers. They are mostly made up of indians who charge 300 aed for a visit. Once you apply you get a call congratulating and inviting you. The moment you arrive they take 300 AED and promise to contact you.

The reason the violated the law by mentioning Nigeria could be because Nigerians no longer fall for their tricks. Also, Nigerians give them hell on earth if they take the money without offering any job.

That thing is not a company but a group of indian scammers posing as agencies to scam desperate job seekers, since they cant scam Nigerians they resulted to ignirantly violating the law.

Imgaine a comoany without any public contact info, I found their actual contact which even contradict what they claim which means that ad is also for scamming.

I am taking action against them and this thread will be uodated.

The UAE needs skills and law abiding residents not skin colors etc.

Credible firms hire anyone with the brains. Even banks in the UAE has Nigerians as workers. I occupy a position in the government so stop equating these low life scammers with the government.

The UAE government is against descrimination. I am a nigeerians who worked and is still working and treated as a brother and colleague.

Have the skills and you wont be insulted by these fake agents.
