As seen on twitter, a user put up a video of some Opay bikes that have been put up for sale.

According to the narrator in the video, one of the bikes goes for N280,000.

Watching the video yesterday night, tears dropped from my eyes because of the sheer magnitude of loss the business must have accrued over the months.

Opay came into the Lagos market when we needed it most. The company, Opay by Opera had come to alleviate the stress most Lagosians passed through on a daily basis while going to and from work.

The payment process was also very accomodating as the company made payment very easy and cashless.

I, in particular, made the Oplay mode of transportation my exclusive means of transport as I effortlessly maneuvered the Lagos traffic and always got to work on time.

That was the benefit as a user.

Now as a biker, I had the first-hand experience with one of the bike men, the man, in his late 50s was full of praises to the company for creating this source of income for him, he confided in me that his townsman had picked him up from Edo state, his village where he had stayed after losing his job for over 6 months and gave him the offer.

He claimed he was able to feed his family of 5 from the proceeds from the Opay motorcycle.

Now there are countless of other men who like my biker, had the same story.

Looking at these over 1000 bikes here, these are lives wasted, businesses crumbled and families that went hungry.

Just out of the blues, the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu banned motorcycle transport and Keke business from the highways of Lagos.

We were all looking to have a replacement that will at least, keep those guys busy but COVID-19 happened.

I just wonder how all the bike men are coping.

This has clearly shown how difficult it is to run a business in Nigeria. The recent bombshell from NIPOST is also a means of destabilizing dispatch riders and their businesses.

I just hope the government compensates these businesses because the loss is too much and heart breaking.

Our government likes unemployment. They want to rule is forever... But that's actually impossible, we'll overcome all these and put them in their place.

But they can shamelessly promote bbnaija

I don't want to start arguing unnecessarily, all his top employee was arrested in regards to the assassination. So I don't know how you want such organization to function. Think Mr Man.

Policy flip flops, harsh and lawless operating environment, unenforceable agreements/commitments,, woeful infrastructure, impossibly corrupt bureaucracy and institutions... Unpredictable and erratic legal system, etc etc etc.

The country is a F U C K I 'N G joke. The odds are stacked against you even before you try, even if you're determined to try. Dream killer Inc. Nonsense.

Opay could move its business to other states instead of selling off the bikes .Lagos is not the only state in naija.

I really feel sorry for them.

However it is good to always carry our market research and most especially understand government policies when venturing into something of this scale.

There have been numerous cases of government banning the activities of Okada people in Lagos and it is not only the issue of Sanwo-Olu alone.

When you go to working foreign countries, Okada activities are always limited to certain areas. Although, I know Nigeria is hard and those Okada guys too deserve to make money but government decisions sometimes can be harsh for a greater good.

I have also learnt a lesson from this too.
