For instance what are the merits and demerits of Ikwerres accepting to be Igbo or be different ethnic group?

I know so many ethnic groups in Nigeria (some are even less than 30,000 people) and they are existing without this kind of claim and/denials.

Afizeres, Anabuta, Angas and Berom are small related tribes in Plateau State and they don't claim each other.

Isoko and Urbobos are indistinguishable in my own views but they always claim to be different tribes.

Efik, Ibibio and Annag look the same to me but one of my former employees from Akwa-Ibom said they are related but there is no universal name that combine them so every tribe decide to be on it's own.

What are the advantages or disadvantages of these?

My brother I don't think there is any gain for Ndigbo if ikwerre identifies as igbo rather it will be ikwerre that will benefit from association with igbos because the one thing that igbos are looking for ikwerre doesn't have it and that is access to sea. Moreover ikwerre doesn't have oil, there economy is not sustainable as they are not a production economy like aba or versatile like onitsha, their economy that is based on hospitality (hotels) is not that good as there are unscrupulous elements(cultists) discouraging clients and they are not as good in that sector as owerri.
Whereas with association with igbos will give them the upper hand against there neighbours like the ijaw, Mark my words the later will soon govern rivers. The association will make their decision have weight in our national sphere because they will be considered part of majority and also the security associated with it. Don't get me wrong, you might be asking which kind of security? Reason, had it been it was the igbos that are being killed in southern kaduna won't everybody be talking about it? Plus the retaliation in the east. That is why before you attack any major ethnic group in naija you'll think twice. Remember the warri crises between ijaw and urhobo? You didn't even know who Awori were till Yoruba told you they were the Yoruba clan that own Lagos since then you have been running from pillar to post unsuccessfully to create division for your own selfishness. You are also trying to do the same with Ikwerre in order to claim Port Harcourt.

One of our yoruba coordinator during my NYSC days was shocked when one ikwerre girl boldly told him she isn't Igbo. The man no ask am where she come from oh. She was called to do a presentation, the next thing was " like me now I am ikwerre not Igbo" since that day I come to believe truly that the idea runs deep into them. I pity Igbo people that regard ikwerre as Igbo.

It's not only Igbo, the ijaw,ogoni, efik,Isoko, Urohbo, even President buhari etc call and regard ikwerre as igbo. I understand and speak igbo language very well, when my friend married to ikwerre lady did his expensive ikwerre traditional marriage, what they spoke was Igbo language through out. I didn't hear Bini language there and the lady's name too is what I seen my acquaintances from imo, anambra, Anioma Enugu bear.This is beyond logic.It has never happened in the history of mankind that a people migrated less 100km wiped off everything about them and embraced new language and culture. South Africa was colonized for over 400yrs and yet they speak their native languages. Britain colonized Nigeria for 100yrs and the ethnic groups still speak their language. Even Yoruba taken to the new world - the americas- Brazil, Cuba etc still speak and keep Yoruba culture after centuries. What's wrong with Nigeria black man thinking faculty?

If that narrative is allowed to stand then what it means is that the Ezza people of Ebonyi can get up tomorrow and declare that they are no longer Igbos because they choose not to be. We cannot reduce being Igbo to an auction where anybody chooses what they want and what they dont want. If that is the case, then meaning of being Igbo is lost. The Ikwerre can claim to be "distinct" but if their "come" is "Bia", they are fooling nobody. It doesnt matter who the Ikwerre love or hate, it doesnt matter how Igbophobic they are. The only thing that matters is that Igbos are the group of people, contiguous to Southern Nigeria, who speak a variant of the Niger-Congo branch of language known as Igbo, as their ancestral language, and have a surname or family name derived from that language

This definition is the only thing that makes me Igbo, it is the only thing that makes the Nsukka man, the Oru man, the Abakiliki man, the Ngwa man, the wawa man and of course, the Ikwerre man, to be Igbo.

Ethnic stock is not by choice, I can deny my father from now to eternity but it wont change the fact that he is my father. We should acknowledge the Ikwerres such as former Governor Chibuike Amaechi, Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Uche Okwukwu and actress, Tonto Dike, who have all come out publicly to declare they are Igbos. Ethnicity is a thing of choice. Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Finland all speak dialects of same language but each refused to acknowledge it and form a standardized form of the language. Instead they all elevated their dialects to independent ethnicity.

If Ngwa or any other group choose to stop being Igbo tomorrow, then they should be allowed to stay on their own. No one should force association with anyone.

Lol! I have also visited the Ikwerre Rant HQ last 2 months when a chap in Proudly Anioma, Proudly Igbo sent a link of how an Ikwerre miscreant was talking bullshit about Igbo history. So I clicked the link to see for myself and lo and behold I saw an illiterate, thuggishly misleading his people astray with lies and fake history. The worst was that he was comparing central Igbo with Ikwerre and trying to prove why both are different, forgetting that some villages in southern Imo speaks exactly like the docile Ikwerre. The worst is that these Ikwerre freely join Igbo facebook group and claim good people, but in their homes their worst than snakes. If I had my way, I'll make it mandatory in all parts of Igboland, both home and abroad to begin to expel all clownish Ikwerre from Igbo groups. Only then will they be respect and probably the Etche and other follow follow groups will begin to reason properly and abandon the Ikwerre before we add them to the list
