Sincerely, I wonder why many Nigerians are quick to label situations scam. This unfortunately isn't a learning point for many as we think we are smarter than we actually are.

Wish you success in the near future.
And I always tell people, you don't have to be struggling to show people you are smart. Just be smart. I don't ever cut those scammers off when they call me, we always chat for long. Along the line, common sense will tell them this guy knows what we are up to.

It was a scammer. You busted his scam that was why he dropped the call. He just told you that CV job line to make you feel bad - It's called reverse psychology.
A real recruiter won't take offence especially one from a bank knowing the infestation of scammers in the financial sector today.
Did you read the post? I am sure you didn't. Now go and read it very slowly.

Hello, good day , I am calling from xyz bank, im I onto Mr X?

Is that not the call format for scammers asking for bvn?
Listen! It won't kill you to listen. After all the scammers is using his credit to call you, you have nothing to lose. Most Nigerians are just desperate to show how smart they are.

Hello All,

I recently submitted some resumes for an opening in a bank. I was asked for referrals by one of the recruiters, so i source for candidates from LinkedIn and other sources. The recruiter later shared with me his experience with one of the candidate, below is how the conversation went:

Caller (recruiter) : Hello, good day , I am calling from xyz bank, im I onto Mr X?

Mr X (candidate): You want to ask for my BVN abi?, SCAMMERS

Caller (recruiter): We are actually calling for a chat after reviewing your cv

Mr X (candidate): Oh, i actually thought is all this scammers

Caller (recruiter)): ended the call

I hope you can pick some lesson(s) from the conversation, though there are scammers out there, but we should still be careful.

Thanks
Which lesson in particular?
There is nothing professional about the recruiter act.
Two wrongs doesn't make a right?
Such recruiter has really shown the organization is not even looking for a human but a preset bot.
Re: Advice For Job Seekers Based On Experience by chatinent: 6:45pm On Jul 28, 2020
I see no wrong in what the recipient said. If it was not scam, it's no big deal saying it; the caller was insensitive too.

The recruiter actually ended the call because he expected an apology from the candidate.
I disagreed with you Sir.
There's no analysis to prove your assertion.
You were not the recruiter, how could you state his mind.
I've done technical recruitment several times too.
Firstly as a professional recruiter, you make a very comfortable ground for conversation with your prospective candidate.
You are a recruiter not the company HR personnel.
In fact the first line from that recruiter has shown that the recruiter needs to also learn a lot in the field. The recruiter reaction is totally egoistical and unprofessional

Advice for job seekers? There is nothing to learn here my dear. The recruiter is just an A hole!

I run a business, and I can't turn down a potential employee just because he was security conscious.

Please dear Job Seekers, if the job isn't coming, consider Starting A Business here in Nigeria.

There are lots of Lucrative Business Ideas you can start, even with low capital. Give yourself time, and you'll never regret it.
I wish I can like your comment a hundred times

My brother, the average level of smartness and civility is lowest in Nigeria since I can remember.

Many people are impatient and throw libellous allegations around anyhow. It shows a society becoming increasingly uncouth.

People are deceived by miracle exam centres, sorting in schools, etc.

We produce a very average number of naturally intelligent people for our large population. Nothing spectacular.
Re: Advice For Job Seekers Based On Experience by bigtt76(f): 7:36pm On Jul 28, 2020
Ok.but nothing really to apologize about though. undecided It wasn't as if the candidate meant harm it was as a result of current situation of things and the recruiter could've used that as part of the interview asking the candidate.. 'Good, assuming you get a job with the bank, what would you do in your capacity as a staff to help repair the dented image of the bank or something similar'

The candidate did not insult the recruiter to be honest.

The way HRs behave like demigods in Nigeria still baffles me. One mofo (the HR of my current establishment) called me one time and she said "am I unto Mr. XYZ?" . I said yeah. She said, "yeah! Can you imagine". I was so pissed.

I have never talked to you before. I do not have your number on my fone. You called without introducing yourself. And you are complaining that I use informal language.

The bank HR is way over himself. People should walk on egg shells because they are seeking employment. One said he rejected the most qualified candidate because he called him uncle. People don't just understand what human resources means. They are looking for angel with blemish.

This caller could have maybe up to 100 calls to make and one already began with an attitude ... call it security conscious but it was poor phone manners. I would most likely not bother to follow up on this candidate.

Remember the recruiter is not your friend, doesn't know you from Adam and first impression here is very essential. Phone conversations as against face-to-face are very easily misconstrued. I wish the candidate best of luck in his future endeavours and hope he takes a cue from this. Thanks for sharing, OP. This will be valuable to those who are able to appreciate the lesson in it.
Re: Advice For Job Seekers Based On Experience by NACE13: 7:59pm On Jul 28, 2020
I feel it is not a reason to drop the call on the person. These days are filled will thieves, you can't tell Peter from Paul. The recruiter should have been at least reasonable to understand the society we live in. The candidate was too quick to conclude though.

One scammer called an Elderly woman last month, and she can't communicate in English so she gave me the phone to talk to the guy; from the way he introduced himself, it felt weird and I sensed he's likely a scammer while I gently listened to him speak...... Folks, we talked for close to 50mins. I was bent on exhausting his airtime and also frustrating him. The funny part was the way I was talking to him, all calm and acting ignorant.

Guess what? he cussed me before ending the call wink

it's actually the scammers copying the way bankers do speak when they call their customers

Whenever I request for my account statement
That's exactly how the Customer service introduce his/herself before proceeding

What happened to a pre notifying email or at worst a text that would say he would receive a call for further on phone chat?
