Niger Delta Agitation: Osinbajo, Sylva, Otuaro Meet In Aso Rock by TheRareGem1(f): 4:18am On Jul 30, 2020
VICE President Yemi Osinbajo, Wednesday met with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, and the Delta State deputy governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, over Niger Delta issues in his office at the State House.

Recall that various ethnic nationalities in the region, especially from Delta State, have recently threatened to shut oil and gas activities in their domains down over alleged cases of marginalisation and neglect

The most recent of which is the controversial process of ceding 57 marginal oil fields to private investors. Most of the nationalities that had raised dusts, like the Urhobo, Ijaw and Itsekiri, claimed that the ongoing process was unfair as it had excluded people of their stocks from the process and had demanded for a reordering of the process and inclusion of their national interests.

Speaking to State House correspondents after after the meeting, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, said the meeting was organised to discus the issues raised by the people with the Vice President.

The Minister said that the agitations were routine matters, which would be addressed to avoid escalation.

According to him, “It is normal for me to consult with the vice president from time to time; we had some notice of agitation from the Niger Delta.

“The vice president, of course, preempted everything by inviting the deputy governor of Delta State so that we can understand exactly what the issues are.

“These are routine issues; these are host community issues and when they come up, we have to deal with them early before they fester and become bigger problems.

“That is why the vice president invited the deputy governor of Delta State to look at the issues so that we can discuss and resolve them quickly before they become bigger issues,.”

Also speaking, the Delta State deputy governor, Barr. Otuaro, said that the meeting was part of the process of normal consultations with host communities in the oil producing environment. He said there is need to set up consultative plans so that the stakeholders will engage themselves with a view to achieving peace.

“There are issues and we have agreed that immediately after Sallah, we will have a platform to sorting out some of these issues,’’ he said

This is long overdue. This is a move the minister ought to have made since. Never late than never, VP will come up with solutions to their problem and restore sanity and how to run the agency that will enable the people of Niger Delta have what's belong to them.

This will not solve the problemS.
As you can see, the people of the region are suffering from bad leader when Nigeria is still there so imagine how the suffering and the type of eke life people would be living in when Nigeria or giving them a republic?

And this meeting with the VP Osinbajo (especially, the one they will have after Sallah) will see them solve the problems in the region. VP has done it before in 2017 so he will do it again.

Sanity would be restored with VP on the picture now.

The only reason for the problems in the Niger Delta is the way Nigeria is milking them dry and using their money to develop other parts of the country.

If they get their own country, Dubai will be created in Africa.

Didn't read the story but I'm positive it's about them agitating over the humongous rot in NDDC. Glad to see they're finally waking up.

It is unnecessary, until certain changes are done in this country, corruption is our bane, nothing will work we just be merry-go-rounding in a circle, even the owners of the oil producing community are responsible for taking over of their lands with peanut been offered to them, the elites agitate when the sharing formula don't favour them, not when it doesn't favour members of the community

They should start with holding their leaders accountable.......they are very wicked and greedy and care less about them......so if I'm to advice them...... they should start by stoning them......and they will be taken seriously.

Look, even if they are given a republic of their own, Issues like this will still exist. The problem of the Niger Delta are the leaders and the people of Niger Delta itself.

This is not the solution. I am thinking Nigerians can't govern themselves because leaders loot and followers don't hold leaders accountable because they think they are not part of the governance process.

Give them the Republic of Niger Delta; before five years, Ijaws will ask for theirs as well as Ikwerres. Look at NDDC and Ministry of Niger Delta...both microcosms of a fundamental problem. Look at the rot reported there, Professor Pondei claimed to have paid more than 1.4bn to NDDC staff for corona virus palliative...no one lifted a placard, and no one threw him inside gabbage bin, no one set his cars on fire. A king was guillotined in France, a dictator was forced to commit suicide in Germany, a war of liberation was fought in the US, a war of liberation was fought in Algeria, a President was stoned in Iraq...what are you doing in Nigeria? You are praying and waiting on God. Have you first used the basic tools God has given you? In this country, an ex-convict ex-governor jailed for corruption exploited a flaw in our judicial system and got an early release, he then made a triumphant entry to the state he looted and was warmly welcomed and even "kidnapped" and asked to contest for President. The sane state he looted. A man whose cars should be pelted with stones or at the least, conveniently ignored received a rousing welcome. In the past, if you steal, you can't step foot in your village, but now political criminals are celebrated.

When Nnamdi Kanu was shouting and gathering crowd for Biafra, the federal government were not bothered

Do you know if it was Niger Deltans gathering themselves like that and asking for their own country, federal government will run from pillar to post. They will negotiate, they will beg. But they will never send soldier to do python dance because that would have brought Nigeria economy to a stand still

Those guys you see in the creeks and hinterland are more deadly than BH, for some while the noise from there has reduced. Buhari and his cohort in the bid to gratify their greedy urge should not wake the sleeping dawgs. Buhari and his crew has done more harm than good!

No. You are getting it wrong. Nobody or should I say this Administration is not offering Niger Delta peanut, the only thing they are suffering from is bad leadership i.e people incharge of Niger Delta commission are the Niger Deltans, and when the region governors went to see the president, they said they want their people only handling it and Mr. P don't disagree but rather want probe of how they spend such huge amount of money with nothing to show for it. Imagine the commission saddled with the cleaning up of Ogoni land, nothing would be done there till now, the money would have been squandered.

I believe this meeting with Osinbajo will lead to fruition because they ought to have sort for his wisdom considering his anticidences in Ogoni land and the SS people where he solved their problem which put to stop vandalisation, oil bombing and other bad vices. Osinbajo ask for what government can do for them and they stated their terms. So I am sure osinbajo will settle this matter because they man has delivered to them modular refineries (5 new ones and upgrade the only one we had)

SS still collect the highest allocation and other benefits, they top the list. The questions we should be asking are: what are their Governors doing with people's money, what do we have poor standard of living with the fat allocation? , Why do we have poor and pathetic development in SS etc

Thrash and balderdash, they can't manage small, what's the assurance they will spend big fund judiciously.

What happen to 13% derivation?

Aren't we seeing drama with NDDC, with a father fainting anyhow, disgracing his family?

Asari Dokubo one of the Niger Delta leader said the billions looted is just a chicken change etc. .

Even if they have access to all the money generated from oil from their region, they will still loot it dry, it won't still touch the masses.
