Pay attention to the accessories. Bags, belts, shoes, socks, cufflinks, etc…be sure they are all of high quality, in perfect condition, shined/cleaned, and not “themed” (no golf themed accessories or holiday themes). Please don’t wear white sports socks with everything.

Be sure your suit, shirt, clothing *fits* you. Don’t look like you’re wearing your father’s old suit. Be sure your cuffs hit where they should, your pants are current and of proper length, and shoulders fit correctly.

Have the proper pant length. This is a huge issue for men, and I’m not sure why. Too short or too baggy looks terrible…there should be a break, but it shouldn’t be overtaking your shoe. Have current pants or jeans…not stonewashed baggy jeans you might love.
Have current shoes. Square toes might have been in when you were in high school, but they are not now…be sure to look at current trends and be a “modern classic.”

Be perfectly pressed. Your collar and clothing should not be frumpled, and in fact having a cool collar that’s modern (spread collar) can be a mark of distinction. No matter what you wear - a suit or just a dress shirt…be sure it looks as though you just bought it off the rack.
Own a nice timepiece. It doesn’t have to be a Rolex, but something classic and clean looks polished. Don’t wear your sports watch with every outfit you own (sadly, this happens).

Have a recent modern haircut, and style it. Be well-shaved or groomed. Smell good.

Speak with full proper words and sentences, not colloquialisms (no “ya know” or “huh”), and speak more sparingly. Allowing someone else to do the talking appears considerate and you appear (perhaps deceptively so) more intelligent and thoughtful than you might actually be.

Read. Know what’s current and be able to talk about recent important events.

Know topics to avoid - Sex, Politics and Religion.

Never argue in front of company.

Be complimentary, generous, and considerate.
