That “don’t give up” is the key word...

I gave up when the person I respected the most in the army died under mysterious circumstances. 3 out of 10 people in the north east knows him and almost Every body in borno state shed tears when he passed. He is a true hero, I always pray for him & will always do

This excuse is implausible, maybe you don't just like/have passion for the job(which is fine) but giving up because of what happened to another person doesn't cut it.
The place you are in now or hope to be also have people that must have died or will die mysterious. This is a common phenomenon in all work place be it in the military or civil setting.

you are not serious
and the passion was never there in the first place
don't deceive yourself
you only admired his charisma and power
of course who wouldn't admire the powers and command of a LT. Col?
being in the army is not for everybody

The best cadet for DSSC 25, was a graduate of petroleum engineering (Course wasn't advertised), he was born in 1987 meaning he was 33yrs as at Jan 2020(And the requirement was 32yrs by Jan 2020). Can anyone help me make sense out of it?

Moral of the story
Shoot your shot irrespective of age or course of study.

As some people have said here. Your age may be overlooked if not far from required age

Maybe this worked in his favour

True, what about his course too? Then consider the course and age together!

So apparently it’s kind of possible to fail medicals and still find your name on the final list.. if you know who to call..

Probably that was a Contributing Factor

there was a time when Nms discontinued their enrollment from the school straight to military service.. some were sent to nda after to further while some were allowed to go to civil Unis.. I believe he was one of the lucky ones to get sponsored Cos he was one of the best graduating or something like that..na still connect help and cos last last he would have had to reach out to some senior men for them to overlook the age and course of study...like I said, anything is possible in the military when you know the right people

they say this Cos it’s easier to help when you’ve passed medicals already.. but the issue that caused you to fail medicals mustn’t be a serious issue... if it’s heart or bp... they won’t do it.. but height; BMI, dental!! All those ones are easy to work on

I was told that some people who never attended the interview came a month to the training and they were like, they thought they will just give them uniform and office to start work and few even ran away during the course of the training. Now, Imagine people that were passionate about this job that were dropped?

Even navy sef.. people that know what they are doing don’t hustle to be shortlisted on the final list Cos that’s very steep.. they hustle to get the letter a particular office releases to some “special set of candidates” that they’ll present at the Gate in onne and resume cadet training..

Bro, stop mentioning me in your attempt to fault the Nigerian Army. I have been to at least two screening exercises, and i can emphatically say that the Army endeavours to maintain a standard during medicals, especially those that could put the life of the candidate at risk during training.

I still maintain that, whoever comes in through the "back door" after screening or during training is medically fit to a certain degree. The Army expends a lot in training cadets, so the last thing they want is having them die due to issues that could be avoided from the onset.

We cannot be asking for a transparent Army from one corner of our mouth and still be making subtle comments that promote unfairness in the system from the other corner of our mouth.

Cheers bro.
