Dear Nigerian Youths,

The state of the nation today is that our future is being mortgaged by our current leaders. There is no further testimony to this than the ongoing probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission and the ongoing investigation of the immediate past Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission into the re-looting of the recovered loot by corrupt leaders. To make matters worse, not only are the current resources of government being pilfered away, loans and more loans are being advanced by international institutions which our generation is expected to pay in years to come.

This is a coordinated attempt, whether deliberate or not, to rig us into more poverty and penury even as we are currently the poverty capital of the world.

To this end, we at Raising New Voices Initiative have decided to put a plan of action in place to dissociate ourselves and our generation from this recklessness.

We must do everything in our power to ensure that the current government, and subsequent ones, become severely restricted in their capacity to borrow and in the case that they continue to advance these loans and these institutions continue to lend them, we must dissociate ourselves from any future obligations that drive us into further poverty. We need to make it abundantly clear that any foreign lender which chooses to continue to support any Nigerian government in the financial mortgaging of the future of its youth, would be held responsible for its actions, does so at its own risk and should consider such loans as grants l

The attached letter and petition has been drafted and we require you, as an interested citizen, to

1. Sign this document by going to /endcripplingloans and inputting your name and email.
2. Share this document with as many young Nigerians as possible both in Nigeria and the diaspora. We plan to get 1 million signatures because it shows the lack of legitimacy of this current government to borrow more money in our names.
3. Join us in submitting this letter to the Ministry of Finance Budget and National Planning on a future day that we will choose and announce.

Our future lies in our hands, whether as a poverty-stricken black nation or as a prosperous giant of Africa. It all depends on what we do today. Sign this document right now and share!

We have thiefs and dull heads in the form of politicians as leaders in Nigeria

they have no shame

When he is sick he runs to the UK or USA for treatment

when its time to educate his children he send them abroad to study

Now Nigeria (a nation) is borrowing from another nation using the future of the youths and their children to be.

If china kept borrowing from the USA and not look inward, will it be where it is today?

If leaders of the nations abroad are dullhead and thief like many of our politician, will they have great universities and health institution to run to when you are sick?

Nigeria need to look inward and empower it young people (not through the fruitless Npower program). We need to create systems for betterment.

Instead of taking loan, let look at countries of the world and compile succesful systems they have created and see how we can imcorporate them here!

lets gather ideas, lets engage the Nigerian youths, the Intelligent ones and gather ideas

I have seen ignorance displayed by Nigerians severally but not so foolishly.
Like I can understand when you jump up and down and rattle about government policies and I can deal with political prejudice; but this, this beats me like how in the world can't you understand the simple details of a loan?

Like how can y'all look yourself in the mirror and be brazenly ignorant and loud, wa wu!!

First, the money meant for the project will be paid DIRECTLY to the contractors and not to Buhari nor Amaechi neither NDDC or EFCC and Nigerian would only provide counterpart funding.

The "sovereignty" here is a big word for "collateral". And it is even a simple one, if Nigeria can't pay back the Chinese will takeover the asset until they recover the money. They can't take the asset back to their country or take over Aso Rock.

If you, you, you borrow somebody money won't you ask for collateral. If the person can't pay through shortcomings won't you find a means of recovering your cash.

Let us sit and think. I hate to go this route trust me, but we need to instill the truth to people.

Do you know that the USA is in debt?

The citizens even complain about it's indebtedness. I am not defending politicians but borrowing is not at all bad especially with little interest rates.

You can easily criticize government officials from the comfort of your homes but believe you me even if you are put there you won't build anything with the system we have in place ( top to bottom corruption).

I understand your concern but this loan is not in the least bad at all as the money will be paid directly to contractors.

Hi sir, Mr. Intelligent. what we are saying is this.... both Nigeria and china are a Nation, China could look inward and become lenders to other nations. If not to nations, why can't Nigeria become lenders to other African country (With all the wealth and natural resources).

Mr. Rotimi Amechi lied about his loose explanation of the "sovereignty" clause. it is more dangerous than the collateral he called it.

America 's debt is different from nigeria's debt undecided nigeria has accumulated so much debt that cannot be paid in years to come undecided

despite the huge debt and massive borrowings they is nothing to show for it nigeria is still underdeveloped, unemployement is increasing, nigeria still has bad roads, and the citizens are suffering from poverty.

You are correct for that, and that (apart from incessant rigging of elections) they have contributed to the continued election of our current leaders.

Apologies accepted!

Every loan has to go to the NASS for approval, and China won't borrow you money without you request going through due process.

Listen forget all these economists and technocrats who are deceiving you that Nigeria can look inwards and progress without borrowing. They are trying to sound astute and intelligent. Keep in mind that these funds are not going through government or any ministry but directly to the contractors.

Low level corruption is low key the worst. All we see are the heads of the food chain. But if you remove ghost workers and weed out unproductive civil servants we won't be borrowing like this.

I believe in borrowing money to do (business) national projects too but considering the way Nigeria is spending money, e.g 64billion for fencing a university, primary school student home feeding program, Npower and other on-paper project... I think it is better to start spending the little we think we have properly first before looking outside.

and wait, what do you think is preventing us from becoming the manufacturing and tech center for other African country. why the waste of manpower (human resources) of the teeming young and smart population of Nigeria.

The Nigeria I look forward to is a country where we train people and build factories to produce:
large quantity of footware and cloths for young adults
automobile
tech-products
processed foods
high quality home and office products among others and export them to other african countries, atleast
