The best cadet for DSSC 25, was a graduate of petroleum engineering (Course wasn't advertised), he was born in 1987 meaning he was 33yrs as at Jan 2020(And the requirement was 32yrs by Jan 2020). Can anyone help me make sense out of it?

Bro, stop mentioning me in your attempt to fault the Nigerian Army. I have been to at least two screening exercises, and i can emphatically say that the Army endeavours to maintain a standard during medicals, especially those that could put the life of the candidate at risk during training.

I still maintain that, whoever comes in through the "back door" after screening or during training is medically fit to a certain degree. The Army expends a lot in training cadets, so the last thing they want is having them die due to issues that could be avoided from the onset.

We cannot be asking for a transparent Army from one corner of our mouth and still be making subtle comments that promote unfairness in the system from the other corner of our mouth.

was born October 1987 as at January 2020 he is not more than 32 years of which was the initial criteria , so age wise he is within the range, except the course which was not advatised which is some how, and this is not new as a family friend of mine who studied agric engineering from ABU also passed out too and posted to Army Corp of Engineers in this concluded Dssc 25.

I don't think army calculate it that way. I think once you're in a new year(January) automatically you're +1, even if it's by Dec of the said year one will clock it.
Those that were at SSC/DSSC screening should throw more light on this

boss if na months, they overlook it for Ssc sometimes too... depends on who checks your documents..some officers dey overdo.. last time one female captain.. check my documents lemme go she started asking me if I smoke igbo and was asking me why my nails were dirty..that one and her colleague captain jinadu weren’t taking any chances... some other officers weren’t as through..once they check it and declear that you passed it... they hardly revisit...so it’s basically praying to meet someone that doesn’t have problem
The same way during medicals.. the doctor might realize he made a mistake and beg your pardon then go ahead to redo it while some will know and give you that “that’s your luck” look

But last year I had a really decent conversation with him and we talked for like 30 minutes... he even said if I got in, I could design a website for him so I guess I passed that one..

bro if you re 32 this year(2020), as long as the nigeria army is concerned January (2021) you're 33 years already wheather your birth month is June or DEC . that was the reason why I was screened out in sati...cheers
