That was another strange thing he had discovered about her; another pleasantly strange thing. Funmi now seemed to take everything cool. Three weeks ago, her reaction would never be as mild or gentle as this.

He smiled warmly at her. 'Don't worry. The Lord is my strength. I will deal with the matter decisively tomorrow.'

Somehow, Funmi believed him.




Nancy was in a happy mood. For days now, she had lived in uncertainty and anxiety. Thank God, Biyi had recovered now. Surely the words of the revered prophet would come to manifestations now.

She was still in the happy mood when Irene called her. Irene too had been concerned about Biyi's sickness and had always encouraged her
friend that just as the prophet said, there was nothing to worry about.

'How far?' Irene's voice was full of expectation.

Nancy knew what she meant. 'I've, finally, been able to talk to him.' Her mind raced in excitement. 'He's better now. He even sounded excited
on the phone. We'll be seeing each other tomorrow.'

'Oh, that's good news, friend. It's good to hear that.'

'Yes o. Don't worry, I'll give you the full gist after I've seen him tomorrow.'

'I'm happy for you, Nancy. This is the beginning of good things to come.'

'Yes, o. Thank you, Irene.'

'Good night my friend. See you again.'

'Yeah, thank you.'

Nancy remained in good mood throughout the night. The following morning, she called him to know when she could come to the office.

Biyi told her he should be in the office by noon, all things being equal. By eleven thirty in the morning, Nancy was in the ante-room to his
office. To while away time, she brought her i-pad out and surfed the internet. There were some visitors waiting to see him. No problem. She
would wait. The surfing occupied her time.

An hour later, she was ushered into his office. He stood up to give her a hug.

The first surprise she had was when he moved his mouth away the moment she attempted to kiss him. He also disengaged rather too soon from the embrace. Well, maybe it was because he was still recuperating, she reasoned.

'It's so good to see you again.' She gave the warmest smile she could give. 'Oh, how I so much missed you.'

He nodded again. 'Indeed, it's good to be back again.'

He motioned her to a seat opposite his own.

'I'm glad you're here, Nancy 'cos we need to talk.' He had decided not waste time with her. He would try to be considerate in his choice of
words, but he would be firm.
