According to Harvard Business Review, Failure fosters humility, which is not only necessary for leadership but self-improvement. Failure does not mean you are defeated. Intellectual humility means recognizing that we don’t know everything. It allows us to acknowledge our limitations, seek answers and accept new ideas. Being defeated during one’s career journey is quite the common occurrence. It happens to everyone at some point. Experiencing setback is unavoidable. However, you can use the setback to re-strategize on how to make things better for your career. When you get to a certain level in your career and you feel you are defeated because of an incident, the more common sentiment is to give up. But, the question here is, are you really defeated when you lose something? Whether it is an opportunity, a valuable connection in your network, an important document, etc, losing is normal and should be expected. A few professionals would advise you to roll with the punches and come up stronger than before. Yes, this is easier said than done, but, at the end of the day, it is the only reasonable thing to do, if you do not want to get sucked into depression and the pity party lifestyle. Losing is a part of life especially in career journeys. What if you lose your job? What if you go broke after losing your job? What if you land a great job and you mess up your first task? What if you do not achieve all the goals you set out for yourself in 2020? All these questions are important because a lot of times, they happen to us and people around us. If any or all these things happen, does it really mean that you are defeated? Absolutely not! Losses will happen, you will not achieve everything you set out to do for yourself. It is very important to understand this and have the right attitude whenever failures happen. You can only learn from what happened and move on with your life, while applying the lessons you learned in the process.
