I think Barcelona as an institution has over leveraged on the person of Lionel Messi almost absolutely to the exclusion of everything else.

They have the next two weeks to sort out the next decade of their sporting future. If they cannot start a post Messi rebuild immediately then they will certainly enter into a spiral of decay the likes of which Milan and United have recently experienced.

It is clear Messi has subsidised the sheer ineptitude upstairs for many years and the 'foreign exchange reserves' are now depleted.
