Mali Coup: Is This Why Buhari Is Retaining Non-performing Service Chiefs? by nairavsdollars(op): 7:39am On Aug 19, 2020
The military coup in Mali has led to the resignation of the President, 75 year old Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

Is this the reason why President Muhammadu Buhari has refused to replace the Service Chiefs despite calls from Nigerians for him to do so?

1.You have never lived under Millitary rule. How I wish I had a time machine to send you back to the days of millitary rule...you would see pepper.

2.Coups don't depend on who the Service chief is. The 1966, and 1983 coups are good examples.

The service chiefs are mostly the main target of any military coup, just like the chief of army staff was arrested in the Mali coup. The chief of army staff is powerless without the GOCs support, so overrun the barracks and GOCs and watch the CAS become powerless. The Colonels, majors and lieutenants remain the bigger threat in such situation.

but that won't stop it, if it bound to happen . retaining incompetent hands could lead to a mutiny

My thought as well!

That being said, the coup he's fearing would be difficult to carry out in Nigeria as we're not a cohesive unit or true nation like other countries! The only way it can happen is if the core muslim north initiates and impliments it. Given past events, you will not see a Igbo or Yoruba input in any coup!
