Pan- Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere has praised the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), for naming and shaming Governor Nasir El- Rufai of Kaduna state.

The leadership of the NBA on Thursday withdrew its invitation to el-Rufai to speak at the association’s annual general conference following outcry from lawyers across the country who threatened to boycott the event.

El- Rufai who described the withdrawal as an unfortunate embrace of justice says he will continue to offer his opinions on critical issues in the country and his voice will not be silenced.

Speaking on the development in a chat with Daily Independent, Afenifere, through Yinka Odumakin, its National Publicity Secretary said by the NBA’s action, Governor El Rufai who has been acting with impunity will learn how to comport himself in public.

“NBA must be commended for naming and shaming El-Rufai. El-Rufai has governed in the last five years with impunity and total disregard for rule of law”.

It’s a good thing that the NBA has done and they must be commended. It will serve as a lesson to him on how to behave in public life”.

NBA, with this action, has set a very good precedent.

Leaders and aspiring leaders would now know that somehow, someday, their actions and utterances will come back to hunt them.

NBA should also review the invitation to other Speakers. Anyone of them found to have wholesomely disobeyed valid court orders should be dropped.
