I use to eat Crab as a child back then but I don't eat it again now, I miss Southern Nigeria here in the Northern Nigeria there nothing like seafood , no crab, no prawns, no vegetables apart from alewu (green)

That must be tough! I can manage the seafood part, but vegetables too? No way! grin

I didn’t like it as a child. I was always angry when my mum cooks it. Poor woman obviously wanted to give us a treat.

I don't think kaun activates the sliminess. It is used as a softener. You can activate the okro's sliminess by mashing it a little in a mortar, or use your hands to mash the grated okro until everything sticks and can no longer be separated.

We add roasted dawadawa to the grated okra before mashing to give it that unique local flavour. You can also add a little bit of onions, some raw palm oil and grinded pepper to the mix and then mash away.
Kaun does make it more slimy. But it’s not healthy. Best to eat your Okro like that. Some Okro based on season and other factors will not have the slime as much as others. Onions makes Okro lose slime. Onions and tomato. If you don’t break them down or fry thoroughly...

I don’t think it poses any risk, must be a myth. I’ll only advise against using potash- feels like eating a compound. Every other ingredient is natural. You can ask your doctor to be sure. smiley

Pic 1: Fresh shrimps. The small one is N100, the big one is N200. I bought 3 @ N500

Pic 2: Crabs @ 6 for N500

Pic 3: Croaker fish. Didn’t bother asking how much. Just liked the view.

Pic 4: Tilapia fish. Bought 1 @ N1800. I priced her N1000 and she asked me in Yoruba “my daughter, have I annoyed you before?” grin grin I replied “rara Ma”, then she said, “price me well na” cheesy cheesy Anyway, I heard I can get it cheaper elsewhere, but I didn’t want to go far or to a crowded market. She cleaned it too, very nice women. cheesy

Remember that time our parents use to tell us, food is the way to a man’s heart, this is the type of food they meant. Not noodles and fried eggs.

Uziza is the most versatile leaf if you ask me. I even put it in my pepper soup. Yes, it is PERFECT With okra.

Uziza is actually meant for pepper although I prefer nchawu.

Uziza goes with everything.

Yes. Please, don't put potash in your foods because it's unhealthy to do it.

One more important thing is that as a pregnant Lady, you MUST ensure you cook all your foods, especially fresh foods thoroughly.

No it is not. In fact, I had to reduce the seafood because it would have swallowed my N250 okra. Soups will look so not-put-together when they are cooked newly, as they cool the ingredients will interact and it’ll thicken. This applies to soups cooked with achi/ofo/cocoyam. Don’t always use their hot state to judge the thickness, it thickens as it cools.

It was too much and that wasn’t for me sef. Can you see the okra now? cheesy
