Foundation Type : Strip Foundation

Strip Foundations provides support for structures, transferring their load to layers of soil or rock that have sufficient bearing capacity and suitable settlement characteristics.

So we started today with :

1. Clearing the grass

2. Setting out

Setting out is the process by which information is taken from construction design drawings and pegs, profiles or other marks are set to control the construction work and ensure that each element is constructed in the right position and to the correct level which we have achieved.


3. Earth Excavation

This involves the removal of the layer of soil directly beneath the topsoil. The removed material (referred to as 'spoil') is often stockpiled and used to backfill the foundation such as strip foundations.

Concrete blinding

Blinding is a thin layer, usually around 50 mm or 75 mm (2 or 3 inches) thick, it is usually a weak concrete i.e Lower Grade of Concrete or sand that is laid above a layer of hardcore to provide a clean, level and dry working surface. Concrete Blinding is the most Common Form of Blinding.

Ratio: 1bag + 8buckets of sand +12buckets of local stone = concrete fair mix (1:4:6)

Installed few rebar for columns.

1. Completed footing rebar erection.
Footings are an important part of foundation construction. They are typically made of concrete with rebar reinforcement that has been poured into an excavated trench. The purpose of footings is to support the foundation and prevent settling.

2. Foundation wall
The foundation wall is a solid wall attached to the footing and rising to ground level at the point where the ground is highest under the building.

Completed the backfilling

Watering backfill
Watering the backfill during foundation construction is very necessary too. During watering the soil layer settles drastically. Good also we could get Course Grained Soil for backfill, such does not settle much during watering.


Compaction of the soil

Purpose of soil Compaction:
The principal reason for compacting soil is to reduce subsequent settlement under working loads. Meanwhile In general, Soil compaction is defined as the method of mechanically increasing the density of soil. In construction, this is a significant part of the building process.

May the soul of the tipper loaders who happened to be my supplier's boys rest with the Lord Amen. They died instantly after sand collapsed on them at the place they went to load sand on Monday 24th August. Currently my supplier (the driver)who became unconscious as a result of the collapse was rushed to the hospital. May the Lord have mercy and resuscitate him in Jesus name !

However oversite concrete is the mass concrete that you pour to cover the entire lenght and breadth of a building on the ground floor to serve as a source of additional support to the structural stability of a building as a seal and a base for flooring
