Nigeria govt can be funny so many times, if federal govt can approve almost times two increment of our electricity bill that was constructed and being finance with tax payer money then what is now stopping private company that uses its personal resources to financed its business to increase its own billing

It's a free market economy and DSTV is a private PayTV operator.

I won't say more than this.....

The burden this govt has put on Nigerians by itself is more than DStv.
This company claims that it just responded to the 2.5% increse in VAT by the FG which is fair enough.

Please whose fault is that?
What happened to HiTV, Star Times and TSTv

This is really embarrassing, in a free economy government don't interfere to the extent of fixing prices. O Level economics taught us that. Government only need to provide enable environment for businesses to bloom and market forces will be in full play.

All those exotic cars government buys every year, especially the National Assembly, can they tell the suppliers to keep selling at prices of the previous years. Can the government tell Coscharis for instance, not to adjust prices of the BMW vehicles according to the foreign exchange dictates?

DSTV is a luxury brand and so not targeted at everybody. That is the simple truth. Its contents are acquired in foreign currency especially the USD and we all know what has been happening to the FOREX in the last few months.

It is embarrassing enough that no Nigerian entrepreneur has been able to establish and sustain a rival brand not to talk of government now interfering in their business. It is the prerogative of DSTV consumer to protest any price hike by simply boycotting them.

Crap. If you cannot pay, then dont subscribe. What is fucking wrong with Nigerians? Its not food, nor air or water. We did not even bother about fuel increases. What we should push for is pay per view model. They can increase prices all they want if their business model necessitates it. Its their business. If you don't like it build a competing company. Nigerians owns shares and also work there.

I rest my case...

For where? They are only trying to give you false succour. The thing will be increased eventually and you will be pacified that at least your government futilely intervened. It's just a psychological intervention.

They keep increasing at will because we the consumers are a bunch of toothless bulldogs...common boycotting of products we can't do as a team.

But I don't blame them, naija government is increasing electricity tariff for the 'rich' at this harsh economic period and the same government want multichoice to calm down undecided

Have they not been exploiting us for long? They can't try this with any other African country. Las las, nothing the govt will do after all this ranting. Very pathetic!

When you have an international company who remit profit abroad. This is bound to happen when the operating country currency is devalued. A no increased means investors would be receiving less dollar monies even if there is an increased naira revenue. This is why Nigeria must and should build their own companies.
Thank you jare. This government has devastated the economy and value of the naira.
Dstv compact N6900
2015 @N150/$1=$46+
2019. @N360/$1=$19+
2020. @N470/$1=$14+
To get 2015 worth of usd for compact bouquet of 6900 they have to charge 21k!
So in actual fact they have in all fairness been OK with their price increase taking the local factors into consideration.

You must note also, most of the dstv channels are paid for in $ eg EPL, PL, CL, DISCOVERY, MOVIE, etc.

If gov is sincere about the plight of dstv subscribers, why not remove all taxes? After all one of the complaints of dstv is the increase in VAT which the have shouldered thus far. Gov cannot cause increase in operating cost for businesses and yet regulate their prices.

If Nta owned by gov were doing what they should would we have any business with dstv?
