To those of you who think the Government regulates Churches in the UK and as such, the CAMA Bill in Nigeria should stand.

I am a Pastor in the UK. This means I can speak on this issue.

As a Church in the UK, you are seen as a charity. The UK government gives grants to the Church. For example, the government can give you £50k (N30 million Naira) at the end of the year based on how much your Church performed that year.

Because of this, the Government checks your finances to ensure the grants given to you are merited. This is how the UK Government regulates churches.

The CAMA Bill does not make any sense in Nigeria, because the Nigerian Government, to the best of my knowledge, does not give any form of grants to any Church in Nigeria. How do you want to regulate the finances of the Church , to the extent of changing her board, when the Church does not benefit from you, financially.

Therefore, stop comparing the UK Government with Nigeria in relation to this CAMA Bill.

I am not against the government tracking down fraud or any form of money laundry.

Please note:

My Church (Fountain of Souls Ministries Int'l UK) has never collected any form of grant from the UK Government and we do not intend to do so.

That will be a welcome development. But let them start that first before they CAMA themselves...

What are churches in Naija registered as? Companies or Charities?

Perhaps the incorporation documents of the churches can clarify better.

Thank you very much Sir for this.

As far as I'm concerned, the church is outperforming the government in Nigeria.

Churches have tarred roads, given out free foods, drugs and materials to the less indigent that are not even members of the respective churches.

The church I attend has, in addition to other things, conducted free medical outreach, rehabilitate destitutes and is sponsoring a couple of indigent children in school; yet, we never make noise about it, not even on social media.

The contribution of the church in the area of education and research is very obvious. Covenant and Redeemer Universities are just few examples.

Above all, the projects these churches undertake, they don't inflate contracts, unlike the Nigerian government that will do a road with ₦10 million and announce to us they used ₦50 million for the shoddy work.

Yet, they still have the effontery to pokenose into church accounts.

Government should start first by sending all Nigerians the yearly income and expenditure at the end of the year. They should also be truthful about the money they embezzled.

The true enemy of Nigeria is the Government, and not the church.

I rest my case

Lies
The grants are mostly given to historical churches that face ruins for their repairs.
Their own regulation is certainly not because of that alone.

Nigerian govt already building mosgues and buying rams. That's a one-sided reverse-taxation or should I say retrospective-reality system. Nigerian govt can stretch language to its limits
