Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG (W202) '97
This is one of the most important cars in the history of AMG. It was the first AMG to be built under Mercedes-Benz. AMG was incorporated by Mercedes in 1997 and this was the first 'factory' AMG. The C36 AMG was still built in an Alpine-esque way: a C280 left the production line and in Affelterbach AMG turned it into a C36 AMG. Not so with the C43, which, as its name suggests, has a 4.3 liter engine under the hood, a real V8. The M113 (normally 279 hp) was lightly based to mobilize 305 hp and 410 Nm. On paper, it was not even that much faster than the C36 AMG, but the intermediate sprints (especially at a higher speed) were effortlessly raffled off. This time the C43 was available as a T-Modell.
