kikero:You simply stop providing the services. It's as simple as that. Now before you come at me with the whole it's not easy to do,bypass will still exist, etc, mind you that the current problem will still exist even if the electricity is provided 24/7. it's the job of the govt to slap defaulters with fines and take measures to prevent such things from happening. That is why these companies pay tax to the govt to make sure their interest are protected. If people bypass and don't pay then the fault lies at the feet of the govt for not protecting these companies. Now,if we're to pay higher for electricity, the question is who will pay?? It's not even a question of whether Nigerians are poor or not cause people just won't afford it. Take a look back at our NEPA days and the modern day estimated bill to get a guess of what will happen when such is on ground. Nigerians will gladly pay for electricity if it's provided. Almost every home has generator sets and you can't use one without petrol. It maybe a little different from what is obtainable from normal usage but they'll pay. The gencos who make loses are still in business because of subsidy by the govt. If the govt pulls out and the gencos can't make profit because of bypasses, they will stop generation and these will make the govt enforce these rules on people who don't pay. It's not rocket science |

chrisooblog:Good points bro. Actually our transmission and distribution network need overhaul for better service delivery. Also mini grids and network of mini grids should be introduced. |

Mistakemaker:1) national grid. It is corruption. Let there mini grids at state, local govt. And organisations level. 2) alternative sources of power should be invested in by private organisations as business . This might cover an area maybe a few streets. 3) prepaid meters available just like phones |

kikero:Guy I don get , you dey work for PHCN abi. Let me educate you. If PHCN render good service nobody will bypass meter. Let me give an instance. If use an MTN airtime freely today or tamper with their structure , police is more than ready to deal with that person, but if a person beat PHCN staff, police may not be interested in even arresting the person. This is because u give bad services, MTN on the other gives nice services. Also be educated , if you are serious in your business |

kikero:Oga calm down, are u the only service providing company in this country, why are your customers not paying for service. Let prepaid meter be available and u wil see. The truth is all money collected by PHCN staff are not remitted to appropriate quarters, that why you are saying they are not paying bills. You provide prepaid meter to 95% of Nigeria and you will see boost in revenue |

Privatization of the power sector should be properly done.Only companies with a record of performance in the sector should be allowed to play a role. Also, government should leave the sector completely;generation, transmission and distribution, everything should be managed by the private sector. The role of government should be purely regulatory.CBN can assist to secure long term loans.Having 24/7 electricity is easy and not rocket science |
