The biggest problem is this thing called national grid. Power above a particular MW generated anywhere in this country must be fed into the national grid and then redistributed to different part of the country. This is a disincentive for private sectors to invest in our energy sector. Let the power sector be completely decentralised including transmission. Let each state or region have their own independent energy policy if they choose to without Abuja breathing on their neck. Places like Brass and cannanland in Ota are not connected to national grid and they enjoy uninterrupted power supply. Why can't such be replicated on a larger scale in other parts of the country. States like Lagos, Rivers and Anambra should be able to attract investors into their power sector because they know they will get good ROI. The reality now is Nigeria cannot afford 24/7 electricity for everybody. But some regions can push the frontier for regular power supply which will be a catalyst for industrial growth in such areas. That's what we need now, not necessarily 24 hours power supply for the whole nation. 3 Likes |

Power problem in Nigeria encompasses the whole process. From power generation to transmissions to distribution. Permit me to say that power generation has improve while we are still building more generation but the amount of power generated at the moment can not transmitted because the infrastructure are not just there to transmit the power generated as a result most of the power generating plant are mostly operating below capacity...finally the distribution ikdec, ekodec, IBdec etc are bad in terms of infrastructures that You will even hear that distribution are rejecting power from transmission . How can distribution reject power when the country is in a black out. Again, the so call group of thief’s who acquired the distribution network have invested very little amount of money apart from the licensing fees... yet they want to cash out in multiply of 100... The whole process is not sustainable and very sure of that and the whole process will surely come to a hold in a not distance future. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

njola34:Nigeria could have been saved but clueless Jonathan for political reasons in 2103 sent us back 15 years. Why sell our common assets to the likes of Tunde Ayeni, Captain Hosa, Funke Osibudu, we know they are titanic players in the Nigerian business world, but are extremely naive when it comes to electricity Generation & Distribution? Beni Republic electricity Company, or Togo Electricity would have done a better job than these quacks. 1 Like 1 Share |

kikero: Haaa. brother, you are being myopic about. I believe you must have traveled to some countries within Africa continent , countries with political will for development. You will know get electricity is not that hard as such. Let me tell you the problem with these discos and gencos is that they want profit immediately they set in to a business. Many do not succeed that way. You must invest heavily in big business like for 3 or 4 years before making. Look at discos , they don't maintain their distribution network and so on and so forth. I speak like power engineer. Also note that no area or state of a country should only on one source / grid , there alternative sources of power available to massses in advance country 3 Likes 1 Share |
