You've not done your research. Nairaland is not unique, it's a little upgrade to SMF. You can download it and host a forum that looks exactly like Nairaland if you want. That's not unique, sorry.
Ok boss. What exactly do you think is missing from Nairaland?

For starters, the UI/UX needs an upgrade. He can continue like this and still be making money because he has overcome the chicken and egg problem but for modern web apps in this decade to thrive, a nice UI/UX is necessary. I understand NL was built in 2007 an era where the CSS industry was still very young but this is 2020, Seun needs to up his game seriously or another better looking forum will take its place in the not too distant future.

I get your point, maybe because I am not that much of a tech guy, but I find NL to be User friendly, very easy to use actually. Too much functionality and Visual designs hurts my brain.

Content strategy is good, Information Architecture is great too. The only thing I feel needs to be changed is interaction between Users on the website and maybe help us stop Tribalism here too.

Anyways different strokes for different folks. Have a nice day ahead.

Many users here are not tech savvy and simplicity is cute. Though there might be some things that need adjustment or an upgrade, but Nairaland is fine the way it is bro

You're still naive. You think it's about design abi.. am a webmaster too. Simplicity is class. Seun has left this website like this for decades, do you think he's stupid? i bet you don't know all those your design up there will affect the SEO, page load time and some things you're not seeing.
There's something wrong with the way you're thinking. So, for some reason, you didn't think to look around you to see that what he designed is already being used by so many tech companies in the world. I wonder why they didn't think like you are thinking right now. They're dumb too, right? Yeah, I get it. People like you are the reason why we don't tend to move forward in this country. You think once something is there and it's working, we don't need to improve on it. Let's just leave it like that. Android 2.1 was okay, but if Google and Co. had left it as it was, would it be the Android OS it is today? The design will affect SEO, page load time. Which SEO is it affecting? A mobile app will affect SEO? Please explain, cause I've never seen anyone complain of such before, not even Google, Twitter or Facebook, and they've got tons on app that are WAY more complicated in designs.

You didn't even have any suggestions on what OP can do to make his work better. You're there saying rubbish as if you know what you're talking about. Abeg carry your negativity go one side jawe... Nonsense!!!

Yeah, simplicity is cute, buh sometimes we just have to try new stuff. Nairaland has been like this for only God knows, and even though we love its speed, simplicity and all, you have to understand that technology is advancing every day, which means that the speed you're worrying about will soon be a non-factor (if it is not already, as we're now speaking 4G, 5G), and the simplicity sometimes just tramples on features and functionality (no major feature added to Nairaland since forever).

And if we think about it, modernizing the UI will not make people not use it, will it? Twitter constantly upgrades their site, reddit too, and they've still got huge visitors using their site every minute. Compare this to Nairaland that is now turning to a historic thing, you know, something people look at and be like, "Yeah, a Nigerian made this". It's only a matter of time before a serious entrepreneur will come and take the ball from Seun. I hope not, cause I love Nairaland, buh... At this rate, I'm not a fan of no-change.

I've been designing this for several hours now. What do you think guys? I designed it using Lunacy for Windows. Lunacy is a prototyping software just like Adobe XD and Sketch.
I am not affiliated with Nairaland.com. This is just a concept to show how Nairaland app could redesigned in future updates.
Here are the new features I added in my design:
- Dislike button
- Badges
- Bookmarks and Shares
- Dark mode
In my design, you can switch between the popular tab and the personalized tab. The 'popular' tab is where all editor picked threads are displayed. Basically the 'popular' tab is the equivalent of the frontpage. The 'personalized' tab shows threads that are in correlation with your interests. So if you are interested in fashion, You Will find several threads about fashion in your personalized tab.
PLEASE RATE ON A SCALE OF 1-10

Lunacy is prototyping software that has the ability to open .sketch files. Basically, the difference between Lunacy and Figma is that Figma requires internet connection, while Lunacy doesn't.
Yea Figma needs internet connection, thanks for the info, I appreciate sir.

Trust me, If Seun changes what Nairaland looks like today, I won't fancy it anymore because to me it will just look like every other website there, but like this, Nairaland is too unique. I used to Love Naijaloaded, till they started experimenting with all sorts of upgrades.

Nairaland is okay the way it is.

Op I rate your work 8/10. Keep it up
So many other having conflicting views
Nairaland can be better same way facebook is, facebook for example doesn't take forever to load, niether are they ranking bad at seo
Design matters in 21 century, it shows progress and is used to attract more people. Why do yiu think, UI/UX developer is in high demand
Nairaland at least can change the layout, make posts in a carousel manner clean the header, make visually appealling login forms and profile views, change the like qoute share to actual buttons instead of just letters

Too common, almost all websites and blog have this layout, Nairaland is a forum! It has to be unique.
I'll give it a 3/10 , I for give you 4 but you used a white woman's picture instead of an African for this first icon

Trust me, day by day more people are creating account with Nairaland even with all the competition from other forums, that's still progress if you ask me. I believe changes can be made to the way users interact on the site, every other upgrade is just for fancy and not completely necessary.
