If all you have is an inconsistent prayer and study life; and you expect God to speak, He may never speak to you. If like water you are unstable, you may never flourish in hearing His voice. If all you ever do is an emergency prayer and emergency study of His word, then that Father-Son relationship you crave may never emerge.

Your skin and flesh is like the Camry and your spirit is like you when you enter the Camry which is why the Bible always says "look within".

They are the ones who are Instructing the Lord on what He should have to say on the subject (like a babalawo). Therefore, He will Never Answer Them.

Rather they Ought to Listen to All He has to say to them on Any Subject.

Therefore, He knows when you are Truly listening for Him, He knows the Truth of why you want to listen to Him and He knows the purposes for which you desire to hear from Him.

Before, God spoke to his people through various means of communication and he used his prophets as mouthpiece. Hebrew 1:1
So the Israelites were penning all what happened in their midst until the birth of their Last Prophet (Jesus of Nazareth)! Hebrew 1:2

After Jesus' ascension back to heaven, he spoke with few of his followers directly from heaven until the completion of all the information God had for mankind, in the concluding part of the book called "Bible" Jesus made it clear that Nobody will hear anything from God again because there is neither addition nor subtraction from the information he has revealed! Revelations 22:18-19

Of course demons (fallen angels) will continue to speak to people {2Corinthians 11:13-15 compare to Revelations 16:14} but as for the true God He is no more speaking to or through any man again because that would be tantamount to addition!

As a matter of fact, I decided to attend a Christian Fellowship this week, which I have not done since last year.

They were all surprised to see me.

After the meeting, the Man of God in charge of the fellowship told me that there was a revelation of me coming back and "waxing stronger in the Lord".

Are you saying that he lied?

I am hesitant in saying that the Op is right, meanwhile, he is not wrong.

My view respectfully is that prayer is the act of putting a Call to God.

It is either He Answers the call or He does not Answer.

The Bible already has disclosed the Rules of Effective Prayer but people do not heed it.

The Bible tells us that Prayer depends on many things, to wit, Relationship (No One accepts the call of strangers but of Loved Ones), The purpose of the Prayer (He Knows Already before you called), His (God's) Unchanging Opinion About the Subject Matter of Prayer etc.
