Thanks to Zuma and his Gupta mates wink but yeah for both Chad and Denel this was the best outcome since the contract was a loss making one.

Loss making for Denel but highly profitable for Nigeria. 100 units on order is a very significant purchase.

Chronicle of photographs showing the construction of Seaward Defence Boat 3, the largest naval ship built in Nigeria.

We can see the Keel of the Naval vessel already laid and prepped for construction.

This picture provides a solid bird's eye view of the construction of SDB3, it also shows other projects including the refit of Aradu, the fuel and water seagoing barges, construction of crude oil rig/platform and other projects.

Very busy dockyard.

Finally, but definitely not going to be the last picture, SDB 3 is taking shape. A modern design for a modern ship.

The construction of SDB 3 shows Nigerian has the capability to build ships of at least 80 meters in length.

SDB 3 also gives us an idea of what a future Nigerian Navy OPV would look like.

On the armament of SDB3 it is currently unknown the type of main gun she would carry. The 30mm is solid, but a 57mm seen in the second render would allow the Navy attack land targets which are close to shore.

Similar to our operations in Liberia and Sierra-leone.

That's a 23mm anti aircraft gun modified by DICON for ground forces.

It's the exact same gun used by our MI-35m helicopters.

The recoil is not that bad. South-African soldiers use a similar type, but in 20mm caliber.

Sorry to bother you.
But why is Nigeria not bothering to equip their war ships with missles (anti air Craft and anti ship missles)?..
Or is there anything they are currently working on?

That's because our threats are mainly maritime security threats. Since we don't have a big budget like Algeria for example, we have to prioritise.

We might see a Nigerian navy missile capable ship in 5 to 8 years though. For now it's not possible.

Thanks for the pictures,i can never tire of them. I think SDB3 will need thicker grade steel around the Gun placement and down its spine for it to carry a 57mm Gun.From what i see i guess they opted for 30mm.

Nice, imagine if all of this began 10 or 20 years ago.

But I hope it won't be mounted on Hilux vehicles cos it would be very deadly if this gets into the hands of BH.
I hope it would be fitted as a RCWS on ezugwu or NAC-V which I think would definitely have a tracker.
