If it were true, several scientific studies would have been published on how human have metamorphosed to adapt to dry arid environments even more than wet rainforests

If you want to know the truth about the phanthom population of northern Nigeria, stop distributing money based on population figures. Then suddenly, some northwest and northeast states currently claiming 10 million people will suddenly claim less than 1 million, then say the rest 9 million went to Cameroon or Sudan

Nigeria needs conduct a census for proper planning and to adjust allocation. It's been 14 years since the last census was conducted. Nigeria has been stalling due to a lack of funds. It seems the Buhari administration is uninterested in conducting it so the next administration should tackle it.

Lol Egypt a desert yet it has 98 million people some how because of the Nile. The Rive Benue and Niger make Nigeria's huge population possibe.

You are being disingenuous by not factoring in the Nile river which the bulk of Egyptian population congregates around. Where is the Nile river equivalent in the Sahelian part of Northern Nigeria.

And please dont tell me river Niger because river Niger within Nigeria passes through the middle belt/ North central and not the sahelian part of the North.

There is no great river in the sahelian part of Northern Nigeria yet their population is very high on paper and far greater than the other sahelian regions of other west and central African countries.

Lol,why are you like this? Islam accept marriage to 4 wives,if you can Carter for the wives. In Nigeria, even the poorest of poor that can't Carter for himself is having More than two wives and bear more than 9-16 children.
Secondly, Islam is strongly against abortion and family planning,so couples tend to have more children than earlier planned. In the middle belt which is a blend of traditionalists, Christians, Muslims and the must multilingual part of Nigeria, polygamy is highly practiced and most ppl gives birth without spacing.

In the light of the above, the north is more populated than the south as there's a Sharp variation to those parameters in the southern Nigeria.
