Guy stop saying what you don't know, Umuahia was the capital (headquarter) of Owerri province that comprised of old imo state and was more industrialized and was almost at the same urbanization level with Owerri. Aba was the largest town in the province in particular and in the east in general .

Am also reading for the first time that Umuahia was the capital of Imo State....this is actually a faceless forum...you might just be arguing with a kid who just got an Android phone from his Mom. Reason why I don't really take people here serious.

If Imo state is able to have 5 or more of these small refineries, it will go a long way to transform the economy of the state and keep Imo youths in the state to develop it.

Just help enlighten Orlu people to remember their area. I remember one Mr Ifeanyi from Orlu who used to live in Kaduna. He owned so many properties, commercial plaza for electronics shops and hotels there, but in Orlu he still struggled the tiny family home with his older siblings! He didn't even consider building a miniature version of his Kaduna hotel in his hometown.

If even Orlu people refuse to develop their land, who will do it for them?? Orlu people should learn from Nnewi people who are similarly disadvantaged by not ruling Anambra, but they refused to abandon their town.
Apart from being state capital, Owerri people have managed to build and get others to come build in Owerri. I know many of them that insist on having something in Owerri no matter how little. As they display confidence in investing in Owerri, other non Owerri people will also gain confidence to invest in Owerri.

Imo state should be wary of over investment in the petroleum sector , i sincerely hope imo will invest in gas too and be able to draw 13% derivation from Gas and have its now Gas exporting company, i vote Gas economy higher than the petroleum economy

Planning? Orlu urban roads criss cross Orlu town like the urban roads of Aba.


In a broadcast, former governor Rochas Okorocha boasted that Orlu will never have the type of traffic gridlock of Owerri- due to the way Orlu urban roads are laid.

Orlu urban planning was done during the early 1970s by a particular Divisional officer or Local govt chairman who opened the numerous urban roads in Orlu municipal LGA.
People have built and live by those roads but no government remembers to asphalt the roads.

Brother, don't mind the guy just advise him to go and read his history very well. Umuahia was the second capital of old eastern region and the capital of Owerri province. We have only 6 province in the eastern region i.e

The funniest thing about Internet is that exposed the ignorance of the goons. The administrative headquarters of protectorates, northern and southern, were Lokoja and Calabar without Lagos Colony. When northern and southern protectorates were amalgamated, Lagos assumed the headquarter of the amalgamated protectorates. Enugu only became capital of eastern region due to large presence and economic interest of colonialists due to coal mine in Enugu. The only time Umuahia became administrative headquarter of Eastern region was during the war which Owerri also served as administrative headquarter. Again Calabar was only the administrative headquarter of the southern protectorate not eastern region.

But what’s the need of Owerri was capital of this Umuahia was capital of that?

What is important is level of urbanization in every town before and now.

Calabar was the first capital of Nigeria. Not even a foolish Calabar man can now come out to say: because Calabar was capital of Nigeria, therefore Calabar must be made by government to have all development institutions in Nigeria, get all government patronage, while rest of Nigeria waits.

That Orlu and Owerri were nearly on the same level of urban development in 1976 when Imo state was created, is inconsequential now, except for purpose of history.

What’s important now is that Owerri cannot continue to host all instruments of government that induce development in the state only for Owerri alone - Orlu has nothing.
It’s catastrophic distribution of govt resources before 1999, before Orlu people had opportunity in a democracy to participate in politics of location of government institutions that induce development.

IMSG has invested too much in building in state capital city since 1976.

Make Orlu and other places in the state modern for Imo people by building urban roads, extend multi faculty government university facility, treated pipe borne water supply system, etc, to Orlu and other places in Imo state. It’s no sin.

Owerri people still cluster together and live in huts in Owerri nch’ise at Owerri central, still cluster in huts like Ikwerre people all over Owerri senatorial zone. It’s Owerri culture.

Most of the mansions you see in Owerri are owned by Orlu people.

Orlu still remains behind Owerri because of three consecutive governors who told themselves that they have issues with one or two politicians from Orlu, so they extend their aggression to the whole of Orlu, deny Orlu what’s due to it.

Stop disgracing yourself. Umuahia was the second capital of eastern Nigeria and the capital of Owerri province. Lokoja was not the capital of northern protectorate it was only the administrative center of the British Royal company before the British government established protectorates and direct rule. The administrative capital of northern protectorate was Zengeru in the present Niger state before the regional capital was moved to Kaduna.

At the time of the protectorates, Nigeria had only 3 colonies i.e Lagos, northern and southern protectorates which had their capitals in Lagos, Zengeru and Calabar respectively. Go and look for Nigerian map as at 1953.
