Besides the green environment and the commendable individual effort, what jumps out at you while watching the drone view of Orlu is government neglect! The roads are terrible, and the ones they attempted to do, you can see the poor quality even from your birds eye view!

If you go into this Orlu and see the rotten urban roads people cluster on, you will swear there is wicked politics in Imo state. Some governors and political players think that they have a political foe in the area.

Orlu is a village. Not everything you calm urban.

First of all let owerri develop to a maximum level then others can be looked at.

Even Owerri has deteriorated and uzodimma has so much to spend to fix it back.

Rest of the towns in Nigeria must wait until Abuja develops to maximum level.

But even Rome has not developed to maximum level.

I saw a picture on the news that erosion has driven over 300people from their houses because of the rain, 300 people being homeless is supposed to be a humanitarian crisis that ediot of a governor despite him being in apc can't at least try to lobby the apc lead fg to set up Idp camps for this homeless people right now or if possible give them palliatives he instead left them to their fates while he goes to fool himself in edo

Like me, does anyone else get the impression greening up our environment and maintaining existing forests is the last thing on the mind of our governors? undecided

lack of vision from lack of imagination.
trees lined by trees are less exposed to the elements of sun and water. sun and water are the #1 damagers of roads. Instead of thinking of a permanent solution the would rather we clap when they poor cement into a hole. Trees also reduce pollution and toxic air + reduce crime, reduce driving speeds, and reduce car accidents all due to their proven scientific effects on the mind.

There's nothing to be proud about the fact that 3quarter of our population leave our state and only return for only a fraction of the year.

The real pride is when all these people can stay home cause there's something worth keeping them home

E no go better for you people in Imo state. You fight against nature. Orlu and Owerri were nearly on the same level of urban development in 1976 - Owerri slightly ahead.
In Europe and America, a settlement the size and population of Orlu is an undisputed urban centre.

Retrogressive people like you in Imo state who apparently have never lived beyond Owerri zone, take pride in having Owerri as the only modern urban centre in Imo state. You get support from some political leaders in Orlu senatorial district. These political leaders from Orlu zone you get support from see one or two old politicians in Orlu urban LGA as enemies; therefore they foolishly see the whole Orlu urban LGA as enemy territory, deny modern development to Orlu, instead develop Owerri area.
When they leave office, their hometowns in Orlu zone remain rural or even deteriorate.

Guy stop saying what you don't know, Umuahia was the capital (headquarter) of Owerri province that comprised of old imo state and was more industrialized and was almost at the same urbanization level with Owerri. Aba was the largest town in the province in particular and in the east in general .

Above is a display of stack ignorance. Please stay with your knowledge base and do not punch above your weight class. Umuahia could not even displace Uzoakoli as the headquarter of Bende Division talk less of being capital of Owerri province. By the way, old Owerri province comprised the defunct Imo and Rivers States. Everything under Rivers province was part of Owerri province before Rivers province was created. Owerri was not only a province but a division in Owerri province. Enugu which became capital of eastern region was not even division.

If Imo state is able to have 5 or more of these small refineries, it will go a long way to transform the economy of the state and keep Imo youths in the state to develop it.

This is one achievement i can attribute to Rochas. One hopes that Hope Uzodinma will take the initiative to the next level to help more modular refineries to establish in the state.

Just help enlighten Orlu people to remember their area. I remember one Mr Ifeanyi from Orlu who used to live in Kaduna. He owned so many properties, commercial plaza for electronics shops and hotels there, but in Orlu he still struggled the tiny family home with his older siblings! He didn't even consider building a miniature version of his Kaduna hotel in his hometown.

If even Orlu people refuse to develop their land, who will do it for them?? Orlu people should learn from Nnewi people who are similarly disadvantaged by not ruling Anambra, but they refused to abandon their town.
Apart from being state capital, Owerri people have managed to build and get others to come build in Owerri. I know many of them that insist on having something in Owerri no matter how little. As they display confidence in investing in Owerri, other non Owerri people will also gain confidence to invest in Owerri.

The Eastern Region was an administrative region in Nigeria, dating back originally from the division of the colony Southern Nigeria in 1954. Its first capital was Calabar. The capital was later moved to Enugu and the second capital was Umuahia. The region was officially divided in 1967 into three new states, the East-Central State, Rivers State and South-Eastern State. East-Central State had its capital at Enugu, which is now part of Enugu State.[1]

Planning? Orlu urban roads criss cross Orlu town like the urban roads of Aba.

In a broadcast, former governor Rochas Okorocha boasted that Orlu will never have the type of traffic gridlock of Owerri- due to the way Orlu urban roads are laid.

Orlu urban planning was done during the early 1970s by a particular Divisional officer or Local govt chairman who opened the numerous urban roads in Orlu municipal LGA.
People have built and live by those roads but no government remembers to asphalt the roads.

Brother, don't mind the guy just advise him to go and read his history very well. Umuahia was the second capital of old eastern region and the capital of Owerri province. We have only 6 province in the eastern region i.e
Province: capital/headquarter
1. Calabar: Calabar
2. Cameroon: -
3. Ogoja: Abakiliki
4. Onitsha: Enugu
5. Owerri: Umuahia
6. Rivers: Portharcourt

Eastern Region

The funniest thing about Internet is that exposed the ignorance of the goons. The administrative headquarters of protectorates, northern and southern, were Lokoja and Calabar without Lagos Colony. When northern and southern protectorates were amalgamated, Lagos assumed the headquarter of the amalgamated protectorates. Enugu only became capital of eastern region due to large presence and economic interest of colonialists due to coal mine in Enugu. The only time Umuahia became administrative headquarter of Eastern region was during the war which Owerri also served as administrative headquarter. Again Calabar was only the administrative headquarter of the southern protectorate not eastern region.

But what’s the need of Owerri was capital of this Umuahia was capital of that?

What is important is level of urbanization in every town before and now.

Calabar was the first capital of Nigeria. Not even a foolish Calabar man can now come out to say: because Calabar was capital of Nigeria, therefore Calabar must be made by government to have all development institutions in Nigeria, get all government patronage, while rest of Nigeria waits.
This is the impression our bros from Owerri drop here.

@Deridegull,

That Owerri was capital of wherever before is inconsequential now, except for history purpose.

That Orlu and Owerri were nearly on the same level of urban development in 1976 when Imo state was created, is inconsequential now, except for purpose of history.

What’s important now is that Owerri cannot continue to host all instruments of government that induce development in the state only for Owerri alone - Orlu has nothing.
It’s catastrophic distribution of govt resources before 1999, before Orlu people had opportunity in a democracy to participate in politics of location of government institutions that induce development.

IMSG has invested too much in building in state capital city since 1976.

Make Orlu and other places in the state modern for Imo people by building urban roads, extend multi faculty government university facility, treated pipe borne water supply system, etc, to Orlu and other places in Imo state. It’s no sin.

Why bring the boring argument of Owerri was capital of the “world,” Orlu is a village, into this?

Owerri people still cluster together and live in huts in Owerri nch’ise at Owerri central, still cluster in huts like Ikwerre people all over Owerri senatorial zone. It’s Owerri culture.

Orlu people don’t live like that. Orlu people build mansions separated from one another,

Most of the mansions you see in Owerri are owned by Orlu people.

Orlu still remains behind Owerri because of three consecutive governors who told themselves that they have issues with one or two politicians from Orlu, so they extend their aggression to the whole of Orlu, deny Orlu what’s due to it.

Stop disgracing yourself. Umuahia was the second capital of eastern Nigeria and the capital of Owerri province. Lokoja was not the capital of northern protectorate it was only the administrative center of the British Royal company before the British government established protectorates and direct rule. The administrative capital of northern protectorate was Zengeru in the present Niger state before the regional capital was moved to Kaduna.

At the time of the protectorates, Nigeria had only 3 colonies i.e Lagos, northern and southern protectorates which had their capitals in Lagos, Zengeru and Calabar respectively. Go and look for Nigerian map as at 1953.
