Good evening nairalanders.

My 3 bedrooms bungalow is getting close to roofing and then the site engineer introduce a carpenter to me for the roofing, I'm planning on using 0.55mm step tiles longspan but what I'm confused at are his speech.

- He said those companies who sold the sheet might sell 0.44 for me instead of 0.55.

- He was saying lots of fearing testimony that someone called some carpenter to roof a building using steptiles and after the installation air was blowing the roof and they've to condemn it.

It get to a point I felt he was just trying to put fear in me just to take him along to buy the roofing sheet when it's time. He was saying someone after doing his roofing installation their are holes and the building owner might see the holes through the pop ceiling so I'm like how was that possible.

Pls I need your advice, is it true and important to go with the installer to the company or he's just trying to put fear in me from going to purchase that myself because I'm aware they've ways of duping the buyer to get commission??

I am also building a house in the village that is almost completed...I only went there once during clearing of the plot.
You cant stop anyone that is working for you to make a little profit..
I will advice you to let him handle it so that he can be solely responsible if anything goes wrong....
If you choose to buy your materials yourself, the sellers in the company can also do you strong thing cos it's not Ur field.

I can get the point sir, it's not about him getting little profit off it, the same engineer who's handling the project I make him get most things just to let him know all I want is good job done with no error then I make my self do little supervision when I can because I'm a busy type, but my fear is that what of the carpenter getting that same 0.44mm instead of 0.55mm simple because I won't know the difference and this same man told me as at yesterday that 0.55mm step tiles aluminum is N2,600 per square meter and when we called they said it's N2,200. For Example If we are to use 300 square meters multiply by N400 that mean he's getting N120,000 off me excluding his workmanship, don't you think that's outrageous from a hustling man looking up to God

Just finished a roofing project, I don't know how it's done in your area but most standard roofing companies selling also have professional carpenters for installation right from woodwork to laying the roof. So I advise you take your engineer along to the roofing company and then you can start from there......

okay, you mean if I go to the company they will refer a professional carpenter for the installation work, maybe I would do that or also do some offline research also

I agree with you the amount is much.
You can tell your Engineer to get another Carpenter or tell him you will get a carpenter yourself....this will put them(that's if he's conniving with d Engineer) on their toes.
You can also buy an instrument called caliper...take it to the company, measure the sheets they are selling to you.
If you have the time.

If buying the roofing from the factory or big dealer, they always have professional carpenters familiar with the product installation incase the client needs. As for the offline research... it's okay too
