Edo guber: Obaseki’s deputy loses LG

Philip Shaibu, deputy governor of Edo and running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Edo gubernatorial election, has lost the election in Etsako west, his local government area.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results at 3:50am on Sunday.

The PDP secured 17,959 votes while the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 26,140 votes.

Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo state and suspended chairman of the APC, is also from Etsako west.

Oshiomhole has since thrown his weight behind Osagie Ize-Iyamu, APC governorship candidate in the state.

Although Shaibu and his principal, Godwin Obaseki, had contested under the APC during the 2016 election, they both defected to the PDP following the incumbent governor’s disqualification from seeking a second term on the APC platform.

The most important thing is that he and Obaseki are winning the elections already. Shaibu was only meant to divide the votes in Oshiomole's stronghold and he has done that. The eviction party of Oshiomole and his election customer son (Ize Iyamu) still holds today. You are all cordially invited. The result released so far still speaks one language which is 'Edo no be Lagos'.

It's expected. The paltry 8181 difference has shown dat Shuabi is not a push over. PDP winning d State is still on target. Truly Edo is not Lagos cos with d resilience of Shuabi d total number of persons with PVC would have been returned as voted for APC. I think analysts are saying the deputy governor had a good show by losing with this margin.


But to me.. it's a failure. He is the incumbent deputy governor ... Oshiomole or not..if he has done well..he should win.

The main inec result is coming out gradually. I just visited their website and discovered that the results there are totally different from what I see here on Nairaland. The real magicians are gradually coming out and have started work..... PDP should not rejoice yet.

What we have is SDP (Smartest Democratic Party).

APC = 1 + 16 + 3 = 20
PDP = PD P by law of no repetition = PD = 16 + 4 = 20

APC = 20; PDP = 20
Therefore,
