Lagos- Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) has admonished leaders and governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to learn from President Muhammadu Buhari’s disposition towards the just concluded governorship election in Edo state.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled a total of 307, 955 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress’s Osagie Ize-Iyamu who got 223, 619 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).


Buhari congratulated Governor Obaseki shortly after the announcement, asking him to be magnanimous in victory.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Sagay who commended the people of the state for voting the way they feel, said PDP should learn to accept election results and congratulate the winner whenever they lose.

“That is the way Edo people feel. The election looked reasonably peaceful and I don’t doubt the fact that what INEC announced was what they found in the ballot papers. Whether you like it or not, that is the way Edo people feel”.

I think President Buhari has set a good example. The President has laid down a standard and culture that no election should be influenced by military or federal power; people should express their choice peacefully.”

“I saw the news this morning and PDP leaders were thanking the President. They themselves should also learn to accept result in an election and congratulate the winner when they lose”.

“They should stop feeling acrimonious and bitter when the results didn’t go their way. The standard that Buhari has set, PDP has never met it. They are always grumbling, quarreling and crying out loud whenever they lose”.

"Let them follow the standard that has been set by Buhari so that next time when they lose somewhere, they should just lick their wounds and move on”, Sagay said.
