Good morning Nairalanders,

I've been having sleepless night recently as I've been confused in decision making due to the fact that I'm not well experienced about Job matters.

I presently got an offer at a State Public Service with GL 8 Salary Scale of 63k+ monthly (though it's poor) but with a rest assured constant Promotion every 3 years subject to success in Promotion Exercise. There's also hope that in the next 18 years, I'll get to the Directorate levels (GL 15 - 17) where the Pay Structure seems better with Jumbo rise compared to the poor salary structure of GL 7 - 14... Meaning that I'll have to endure till then before enjoyment start coming. Please note that in addition to Promotion every 3 years, this State Public Service don't owe workers salary as they pay in due time as we all know that Public Service has Job Security. Also, I hope by God's Grace that I become a Permanent Secretary if I decide to choose this path while enduring the Salary (I can switch to Federal Parastatals if the Job Offer comes up later though).

On the other hand, I'm about to get a Full time Staff offer from a Multinational Company (Headquarter is based in the US) with more than 120k Salary for a start. There's Career growth and the chance of living comfortably & enjoying life is cool compared to the State Public Service in terms of Salary. We all know that Private Organisations can decide to lay off workers at any time as there's no Job Security. Also, I don't know if Multinational Companies usually lay off only Contract Staff or they can decide to lay off Permanent Staff as well... Though, the Multinational Company have a Pension Scheme for their Staff & didn't lay off workers during this COVID-19 Pandemic as they were operating during the lockdown since they provide essential services.

I wasn't born & brought up with a Silver Spoon and I never pray to struggle in life henceforth as Poverty must die. I'm a Second Class Upper graduate with proven abilities and outstanding performance as I'm a Problem Solver.

I need the assistance of experienced Nairalanders as your advice and point of views with detailed explanations will be highly appreciated.

@SeedofAbraham,
Let me correct some things you mentioned up there.
There's No job security in state service. Ambode laid off many workers that were employed during fashola's tenure.
Sanwo olu laid off some from Ambode's tenure. I know two guys in my area that lost their State Govt job when Ambode came in.

Multinational companies can lay off their staff if need be! If Guinness is multinational, then I have a cousin who was laid off recently. He was in a management position.

My advice: Go to where there's career growth! Where you can really explore the skills and qualities you have and your pay will increase in about a year(continuously) and you will be valued.

Note: My cousin started from GT. He must have saved up enough to start something!

Use your tongue to count your teeth.

Top of the morning to you!

One needs prayer for these kinds of dicey choices.

Imagine climbing up to management level, only to get laid off in your prime and thrown into the uncertainties of hustling at a time when life's responsibilities are most demanding.

Despite lower pay initially, FG jobs sure do have an appeal.

Good morning to you all. Please when requesting for any VIP number send me a PM and not here and do send their complete names, else i will send the number here and you know the implication. People will utilize the number for themselves too and it is ethically not proper. When you send a request please be patience because it takes me time to search over 3 billion phone numbers over the world to get you the VIP numbers if at all i have the number captured already. And please let it be maximum of 2 VIP numbers. How will someone send request for over 8 VIP number?! I have other things to attend to too. Please bear with me, it is not that I took myself as anything. Thanks for your understanding

morning SeedofAbraham

The best anyone can do here is to advise you, the ball will always be in your court.

You have analyze both the pros and cons of both Government work and multinational.

Which one do you prefer?
where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Are the skills and knowledge you will acquired in the multinational company transferable?
During the pandemic period non of there staff was sack

What has hinder some people growth is "Job security".
I believe that multinational company will open you up to alot of opportunities and if you know what you are doing u can also be a hot cake.

Take your time and think twice with the question (what do I want?)

Finally since you are the seed of Abraham, don't forget to consult the God of Abraham.
He is the Arinu r' ode.

whatever decision you make among the two opportunities,
pls if there is anyway u can be of help to any member of this forum don't hesitate to do so.

Don't trade your future for unforeseen future circumstances please. From your explanation working with the state government has many advantages over working with the multinational entity. The multinational company will utilize you to the fullest and you may not have time for yourself and family. A bird at hand is far better than 1000 birds in the bush...Las Las..if it is me I will go for the one that will value me, my culture and at least give me freedom to attend to other things. Choose wisely!!

By me, I will advice you to go for the state govt job, and strive to have a business to support it, maybe by accessing loan through the govt, it will be more easier since you work there. The pay might be low now but the security is there, the time will be there to do other things and importantly the business. We've seen people that dedicate there whole life in multinational companies but get laid off at there old age when they will find it difficult to find another job due to age barrier, therefore rendering them a miserable person at old age. With the way Nigeria economy is going, any company can fold up and pack out of Nigeria and there staff will be on there own, but govt business will remain as long as the country exists.
That's why you see majority people who have a well paying job still hustling to get govt job because the job security is very important right now the way the economy is going.
