Airports are super capital intensive that even rich western countries can develop them in one single swing. The development of airports are phased over so many years so that the resources generated through operation of the airports are ploughed into upgrading of the infrastructure at the airport. To develop this airport to its full specification, the development must be phased over a few years. The Phase 1 is the very important to get it operational and begin to generate resources that can be used for its further development.

Phase 1: By April 2021: Completion of 3.5KM Runway, 12 stories high Control Tower and Basic terminal building
Operational capability: Daylight domestic flights

Phase 2: By December 2025: Completion of Taxiway, Permanent Passenger and Cargo terminals, Installation of Cat 2 ILS and Airfield lighting system. Completion of aviation fuel depot at the airport linked by pipeline to Orient Modular refinery.
Operational capability: Night landing, International Flights, Major aviation fuel facility for the West African sub-region.

Phase 3: By December 2050: Completion of the second parallel runway and taxiways. Expansion of the Passenger and Cargo terminal to full capacity.
Operational capability: More international airlines use the airport as a regional transit hub for continental flights.

Google has already recorded the Umueri international airport.

I would have preferred naming it Onitsha International Airport or Alex Ekwueme International Airport, Onitsha

It can still be renamed Alex Ekwueme International airport, Onitsha and google will change to the most updated name once people tag the area with the new name.

Same way google changed Enugu airport and Emene airport to Akanu Ibiam International airport, Enugu when people started referring to it in the new name and tagging the location on google maps with the new name.

Much appreciated. Thank you Sir!

I am actually a researcher, so i often research similar projects published online to get an idea when it was started, cost in USD and when it was completed. That then gives one an idea if it can be done in 1 - 5 years based on the cost, as it happened in other climes or if it will take up to 10 years to achieve based on how long it took similar middle income countries to achieve same.

I don't think your idea -as good as it is- is workable in a country like Nigeria....especially at state level. It's better to find the funds and finish the project once and for all, instead of trusting that the next gov't will be interested in, or have the discipline to adhere to the states' development plan. The project stands the risk of being abandoned.....more so if another party forms the next gov't, or the states' fortunes nosedive.

Stop spewing nonsense. Everyone knows that Abia state is the worst state in Nigeria. There's no single state in Nigeria that is worse than Abia state.

Abia state has the worst roads in Nigeria

Abia state is the dirtiest in Nigeria

Abia state is in total shambles.

This has also affected the psychology of Abia indigenes when in public. They don't easily accept to be from Abia state.

My duty is to always cure your madness, the only reason you run away from me is because I am too hot and blunt over the way I strike you. We have been there before i chained you, now you thought you could try again. Let's do it. cheesy

The states in red happen to be the ones managing Nigeria Economy under Buhari. No wonder Nigeria is in serious unprecedented debt.

Ebonyi is really representing, kudos to Umahi.

Ogun STATE Igr is impressive. Fiscally all SE states are running surpluses except for Abia.

Anambra has roughly had 40b x 6 years or 240b surplus over Obiano’s tenure. That is roughly 700m USD. Where has it been spent?

EXCLUSIVE REPORT: UGU AND OTHER VEGETABLE EXPORT SERIOUSLY ONGOING IN ANAMBRA.

The saying that lies will always travel round the world before the truth will surface is nothing but truism. The opposition and disgruntled elements mobilized against the government of Governor Sir Willie Obiano have done everything necessary to discredit the Anambra State Govt vegetable export claims but unfortunately for them, truth will always prevail. No matter how long a piece of stick stayed in the water, it can never turn into a fish. In the same vein no matter how many years lies is peddled and accepted by majority, the truth will one day surface and will shine light to dispel the darkness which represents lies.

The OKE-MMANWU U-AYA sensitization and fund drive tour being organized by United Anambra Youth Assembly/United Anambra Women Assembly (U-AYA/U-AWA)have exposed to me some hidden truth of the daring developmental efforts of Gov Willie Obiano's administration. On Sunday I was at Enugwu Ukwu where High Chief Austino Oguejiofo (Okutalikwe Aguleri) revealed to my U-AYA TV crew the amazing aspects of the ongoing Anambra International Cargo Airport.

On Monday, U-AYA TV team had a fantastic interview/interaction with Ogbunka Orumba born technocrat; Dr Forster Ihejiofor. Dr Forster (Omelora Orumba) is president and CEO GRAFIL GROUP. Grafil is Medical Company with; medical equipment, consumable and instruments, home healthcare, ambulances, turnkey hospital projects, agricultural products processing subsidiaries with head office in Awka and branches in many states in Nigeria. After the interview, one of his aides suggested he should take my team round his farm produce processing company nearby which we agreed.

In fact I marvelled that innovation of that magnitude is ongoing right in heart of the state capital and yet those doubting Thomas could not muster courage to investigate it. For those that would care to believe, not only is vegetable export real, other states are now transporting their farm produce to Anambra where together with Anambra farm produce are processed, preserved, stored and then exported to the US.

Dr Forster took us round the Grafil Processing plant and I was able to witness with my very eyes several sections of the plant. Grafil Processing Company through the assistant of Gov Willie Obiano led Anambra State Govt have vegetables like Ugu, ugba, ogusi, water leaf etc processing section, then; beans, pear etc processing section. They also have snail and crayfish processing unit and many other farm produce.

He revealed that some cartel who couldn't outsmart the prudence of Gov Willie Obiano when they came with fake MOU for farm produce export turned back and started feeding the public with lies that Anambra Govt vegetable export claims is scam. He stated that contrary to their much publicized lies, the Grafil Group sends abroad to offtakers 40ft container 5 consecutive times each year for almost 3years now.

Stay tuned for our video documentary of the tour.

Doesn't remove the facts that Igbos lead. The world knows this! What nairaland mods are doing amounts to nothing, just as they tried in vain in Edo State. One thing is that in this era of internet and social media, it is the Igbos that are deciding what happens on the cyber space and so shall it remain for a long time to come.

I thought you would have asked what Ogun state is doing with their impressive igr instead of questioning Anambra that has been fiscally responsible.

Answer me oga, why is Ogun state fiscally irresponsible despite their 'impressive igr' ?

So you will just come to another person's community and dispose them of over 1, 500 hecters of land for Airport, and then turn around to named the Airport after another community?

What is wrong with the brain of an average Nigerian for God sake!

For the records, the name is "Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport, Ivite Umueri". If you don't like the name, then go to Onitsha and provide government the land and let them build it there.
