We should have institutions like CIA, FBI.

We can't allow idiots in the Nigeria Police force to win

sue? Naija police go change the story for you, you go spend 600 years for jail grin grin grin
Have you heard of the CENTRAL PARK 5 OF NEW YORK USA? 1989, Wrongly accused of rape and spent between 6 to 13 years in prison. Came out after serving their terms and the truth was later revealed. They got $41m as payment for damages.
He should sue them and no matter how long it takes, he'll be paid.

The question now is 'Will he be compensated? '
You don't know this country !!! Releasing him is already a big compensation. If you drag them to court, the case will be there for ages and besides how do you finance the case while you are still struggling to make ends meet. That is the dilemma we are in here.

So now, the man is permitted to commit any number of small crimes for free. So far the prison sentences add up to 7 years total.

While we sleep and wake up daily without appreciating what God is doing for us! We complain of being broke and unhappy, no matter the situation you are, some people are looking up to hat position, you are better of than many people! while many people are better than you! Imagine spending 7 YEARS in a NIGERIAN prison for a crime you did not commit! imagine the pains, the agony, the mental torture, the physical torture, the health challenges, the stigma and all that for a crime you never committed! Whenever you sleep and wake up, please remember to than your God and your luck for the position you are
You know what? Human beings are ungrateful. We're never satisfied. God doesn't need any other thing from us than give thanks to him. Money we donate in churches doesn't go to Him cos He doesn't need our money. If food no dey today, e go dey tomorrow.

I remember one guy in the 90s who was raided in a similar circumstance at alagomeji bus stop yaba. Then the raging operation sweep was launched in lagos by the military government. This guy, my senior in secondary school was just walking on his own he was going home after visiting a friend around ojuelegba who was also a student. They were on break that time. There was this robbery which took place at one pepper soup joint around that area . The woman's pouch where she kept money was forcefully removed and made away with, by the armed robbers. Being an influential and popular woman in that area, she quickly called the police at panti, close to her place on her nitel line and the police sealed the steet both entry and exit points. Yaba steets are so tight that, once you enter a street, you cannot take any short cut to the next street, you must exit at the other end. Its sealed with buildings on both sides and very long streets. Before the police arrived, those boys had run away. Instead if investigating, the police just packed all those seen on that street and took them to panti police station.

Anyone who knows panti in yaba in those days would not want his or her case to be transferred there. They waste lives like pure water and many innocent lives had been terminated by the wicked police at panti in the past.

In short, this guy's family members were worried because he's been away for over a week. They looked everywhere for him before someone now told them to try and check panti police station because a lot of innocent people had ended up there for no justifiable reasons. Reluctantly, they went to panti. Some people who had come earlier had released their people but this guy didn't know who to send to his people. No gsm that time. They gave him 24 hours from the day his family members located him after which they'd finish him. Right in his presence, they had killed like 4 people among those raided whose family couldn't trace them but this guy kept saying he's innocent and his family could locate him. He was just lucky. The first day he got to panti, he said those among them, who had IDs were asked to go free after the raid but he wasn't with his ID that time, even though the military govt advised everyone to go about with their means of identification. It was so though that time. The moment his people saw him, he was released. The police collected 50k that time, which is like 500k nowadays before letting him go.

May we not fall victim of circumstances in life

America is land of opportunities. Everybody is making money.
When they lock you up, you are unable to make money or participate in business activities.
So they compensated the man for not making money all this time .

Oya, you that are free in Nigeria, are you making money? No be complain, everybody dey come complain for this site?

This doesn't only happen in Nigeria. Check Robert Duboise and Archie Williams in the US.

37 years each wasted!
Yeah you are correct, but the difference between the US and Nigeria is very clear. In the US most times one is convicted because of evidence which were unavailable to the judge at that time that wold have exonorated the culprit like DNA then becomes available at the case review leading to disharge of the person. In other words the judges are saying I made a mistake in my former judicial pronouncement but in the case of Nigeria most times these guys are just incaserated on awaiting trial for years when they don't even have evidence to prosecute these guys. In the USA the state dies not even wait for these guys to sue for damages they take the lead and enter into negotation to pay for the years behind bars that can't be said of by our State agents
If you see hear from victims you will hardly make that comparism.

Poor guy! This is Nigeria where being close to the vicinity of a crime makes you culpable. I can imagine how his neighbors, church members, family members and even people who have never met him would have judged him guilty. Insulted and scorned him for no just reason. Now he is free, there’ll still be those that will claim he got out only because he had money to pay for it. Nigeria is a country where crooks thrive and the innocent get punished. In a sane climate, this poor guy will be paid for loss of income and damages. I pray things will change in Nigeria for good.

whenever I read thread like this, I end up weeping, because I have been in same condition... you will be in prison asking so many questions.... you will get to know and see different people. even in prison, you will have many experiences that is when you will get to understand the true meaning of this Bible verse.
is not of he that willthy, or he that runeth bt of God that showeth Mercy.
Äm happy for him.

I'll even want to ask if it was a competent court of law that sentenced him to prison. If not, I think it's best he sue the Police to court.

7 years wasted for something he didn't do ought to have someone take responsibility.
I tell you!
