No access to fresh vegetables? Sprouts your own vegetable for your vitamins during lock down.

I've bee sprouting some grains

The first is black grams (it looks exactly like green grams(mung beans) but it's black.

1. I took a small handful of greengrams(like a quarter tea cup)

2. Washed

3. Soaked in my plastic water jug. The lid was closed but I left the breathing holes for the seeds to breath

To avoid growth of bacteria and mold. It's important to drain the water after the germination starts, and to water and drain the same seedlings several times a day(at least twice) to avoid drying and dying of seeds.

Day 0:00 (beans - I think these are "rose Coco"wink

Just soaked these today cool in the morning

Edit: The beans partly sprouted but they I was not careful enough with them. They grew mould ... I threw them out undecided

Black grams however continued growing healthy as shown down below grin grin

Day 5 black grams

HARVEST cool
I picked a handful to start with.

Some eat as salad. I prefer cooking.

Fried with onions and spiced with curry powder for about 5 minutes

Conclusion:

1. The stems are Abit tough. They would do well if first boiled by a tenderizer or cooking for a longer time.

2. I also suggest cutting them into smaller lengths as because of the tough stem, chewing makes them fibrous in the mouth if not tenderized.

Photos ...

I got them from the super market. For the sprouts, I advise not eating the roots as they are fibrous. Just cut the upper shoots
