He did not fall any sick, that is an scam right under our nose. It is a shame. A Nigerian navy helicopter should have evacuated him. Smh.

Egypt Orders 2 Italian FREMM Frigates for €1.2B

Egypt has reportedly placed an order for two Italian FREMM Bergamini-class frigates for $1.2 billion.

The contract was signed in late August. The Egyptian Navy will receive its first frigate by the end of this year. It will get the second ship in 2021, Italian magazine L’Espresso reported September 30.

As earlier reported by the Italian media, the initial contract for two frigates could be followed by an order for two more. Egypt is also said to be interested in buying patrol ships from Fincantieri, some of which it would build locally under license along the same business model it adopted with the French Gowind corvettes.

The FREMM program is a joint Italian-French Defense industrial co-operation project for a new generation of frigates, having a common baseline, but differing from one country to the other as a function of different operational requirements. The frigates for the Italian Navy are built at the Fincantieri’s integrated naval shipyard of Riva Trigoso-Muggiano.

The FREMM Bergamini-class frigates have a full load displacement of about 6,500 tons, an overall length of about 144 metres and a top speed exceeding 27 knots.

FIGHT AGAINST BANDITRY: CAS ASSESSES CONDUCT OF NEW SUBSIDIARY OPERATION KASHE MUGU 2 IN KADUNA, URGES AIR COMPONENT TO SUSTAIN ONSLAUGHT AGAINST ARMED BANDITS, COMMENDS CONTRIBUTION OF YOUNG PILOTS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has tasked the Air Component of Operation THUNDER STRIKE (OPTS) to intensify its air strikes against armed bandits and other criminal elements in Kaduna and surrounding States with a view to ensuring a return of normalcy to troubled parts of the North West and North Central Zones of the Country. The CAS gave this charge today, 6 October 2020, while in Kaduna to assess the progress of the newly launched Operation KASHE MUGU 2, a subsidiary air interdiction operation aimed at neutralizing identified armed bandits’ hideouts in the forests and border areas between Kaduna and Zamfara States. The CAS, who witnessed the conduct of one of the waves of today’s attack missions, commended the pilots and support personnel for their efforts and the commendable results so far recorded. He however urged them to sustain the momentum of operations to ensure that there is no hiding place for the bandits. “You must continue to work assiduously, in synergy with sister Services and other security agencies, to smoke the criminals out of their enclaves and ensure that they are no longer able to stop law-abiding citizens from pursuing their legitimate aspirations”, he added.

Speaking to the Press after the attack aircraft had returned from the successful air interdiction mission, which resulted in the destruction of a camp and neutralization of several armed bandits at Fadaman Kanauta, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the operation, noting that the air strikes would be sustained to ensure that all identified camps are cleared. He disclosed that the Air Component would also continue to conduct Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions to identify all other camps which, he said, would be similarly taken out. The CAS noted that the overall objective was to ensure that Nigeria is secured and that no individual or group, whether terrorists or otherwise, undermines Nigeria’s sovereignty or the rights and values that Nigerians hold so dear.

Speaking further, the CAS especially lauded the efforts of the young pilots conducting the missions. He noted that, as a result of the current NAF Administration’s aggressive capacity building efforts, the Service now has a good number of competent young pilots across all its aircraft types, with officers in their twenties and early thirties being captains on the C-130H aircraft fleet as well as on aircraft in the Presidential Air Fleet, which was a marked departure from what obtained in the recent past, where Air Commodores and Air Vice Marshals were the only captains on such fleets. “Its all about capacity building. Once the capacity is there; the opportunity is given for young people to train and acquire the necessary skills, then the sky is the limit and that is what we have seen these young pilots do over the past few years”, he added.

The CAS, who was accompanied on the visit by the Chief of Training and Operations, AVM James Gwani; Chief of Aircraft Engineering, AVM Musibau Olatunji; as well as Chief of Logistics, AVM Mohammed Yakubu, and other senior officers from Headquarters NAF, had earlier been briefed on the conduct of the operation by the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Musa Mukhtar, and the Air Component Commander OPTS, Wing Commander Mohammed Umar. The CAS also later inspected facilities at the 061 NAF Aeromedical Hospital as well as infrastructure at the Regiment Training Centre Kaduna.

Yes. European ships cost a fortune, mostly because you pay to use patented intellectual property, which include- modern systems, softwares, sensors and navtronics, etc.

A replacement for a fully armed Aradu-class warship was in excess of Euros 500 million.

But the Nig. Navy planners have found favour with smaller agile ships between 90-100m length.

The Navy conclusion is that we would spend less money on operations(fuel), personnel(50-70 onboard) and maintenance cost of 90-100m sized ships, and still get similar capabilities. Thanks to automation and advanced technologies.

Nigerian Army takes delivery of more equipment – Buratai

The Nigerian Army says its operations to curtail the activities of criminals across the country had witnessed tremendous successes.
ByAgency Report October 6, 2020 2 min read
As part of efforts to tackle the prevailing security challenges confronting the country, the Nigerian Army has taken delivery of more sophisticated platforms and war equipment for its operations.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Tukur Baratai, disclosed this at the opening of the Chief of Army Staff’s combined first, second and third quarters conference, on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

Mr Buratai, a lieutenant-general, said while some of the platforms were procured from foreign sources, some were sourced locally through local ingenuity and collaborations.

To this end, the Nigerian army recently took delivery of key platforms to reinvigorate our operations.

“These include the VT4 and FT1 tanks, the KIA light tactical vehicles as well as the SH2 and SH5 self-propel artillery guns.

“Post-treatment training is ongoing on this equipment and they would soon be inducted into the theatre.

“The Nigerian Army received some armoured personnel carriers from Jordan and we are expecting the delivery of other major capabilities.

“Furthermore, through local ingenuity, Nigerian Army facilitated the production and delivery of the pro-force MRAPs, Ezugwu MRAPS as well as the Conqueror and Champion barriers.

“Despite teething challenges in the new innovation, these platforms have no doubt enhanced the effectiveness of our troops across various theatres.

“We will continue to work assiduously to ensure that we support all operations with equipment and platforms,’’ he said.

Mr Buratai however, urged the commanders to ensure judicious deployment of the asset in order to justify the huge resources expended on them by the federal government.

He said the ongoing operations in different parts of the country to curtail the activities of criminals had witnessed tremendous successes.

The COAS said the military had done well in curtailing the activities of insurgents, armed bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers, as well as farmer-herder clashes and other crimes.

He urged the field commanders to sustain the tempo of operation to ensure the total decimation of all the inimical forces across the country.

According to Mr Buratai, the Nigerian Army had done well in operation Lafiya Dole and the recently launched operation Sahel Sanity in the North West to rid the Katsina, Zamfara, corridors of marauding bandits.

“Similarly, operation Hadarim Daji is very active in other parts of the 8 Division area of operation in order to curb incessant farmers and herders’ clashes.

“Also, since its establishment with headquarters in Doma, the 4 Special Forces Commend in conjunction with the Guards Brigade has conducted impactful operations in Nasarawa State.

“I am happy to observe that the various operations are currently achieving the desired objectives,’’ he said.

Mr Buratai, while paying tributes to fallen officers and soldiers, said that the army had put in place an elaborate housing programme for the families of the killed-in-action personnel.

He also assured that comprehensive medical treatment for all wounded personnel would always be accorded the highest priority.

Mr Buratai said the ongoing construction of the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Maiduguri and Abakaliki are just a few of several measures in this regard.

The Army chief commended the media and public for their understanding and positive change of perception regarding the Nigerian Army, adding that the media remained a powerful force in ensuring a progressive society.

He also emphasised the need for enhanced collaboration in tackling security challenges through positive, constructive and conscious media reportage.

Mr Buratai commended the collaboration of sister services and other security agencies and called for more support and collaboration towards making the country safe for all.

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for their support towards defeating terrorism and ensuring peace and stability in the northeast.
