The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has threatened to shut down the Federal Girls College Umuahia over poor sanitary and maintenance culture by the management of the school.

Nwajiuba, who issued the threat during a visit on Monday expressed disappointment over the level of infrastructural dilapidation and poor sanitary condition of facilities in the school.

The minister, who was visibly angry as the management conducted him round facilities in the school, scolded the management over his observations.

“Are you running a prison here? Even prisons are better than this! Are parents allowing their children to be here? You people are in trouble. This school will fall into the category of schools we will close for two years”, the minister said.

At the school’s clinic, the minister called on the camera man covering his visit to take shots of the poor and dirty condition of facilities there.

He was also dissatisfied with the management over the state of COVID-19 isolation centre which, he said, was not in compliance with the federal government’s guidelines.

Even d state is nothing to write home about talk more of d schools. Of the whole southe east states, there is everything wrong with Abia state. That state should be relegated to the d north east.

Providing enough sanitary materials, cleaners etc is the right thing to do

Most public schools in Nigeria especially boarding secondary schools and universities with hostel facilities are worse than dung hills. The rooms are overcrowded, the corridors and passages are very dirty, the bathrooms are eyesores while the toilets are worse than hell; either full, overflowing with sh*t and maggots or the soakaways are full and broken.

Students should equally imbibe the culture of cleanliness which is next to godliness as many students are very dirty and even worsen the already bad situation.

The worst people in this country are those who work in government-owned establishments.

They never have the sense of commitment to duty.

They would always say that government work no be their papa own.

We don't take maintenance and cleanliness serious in this country. Rotten leadership from head to toe

School managers in Nigeria are simply the worst. They hardly makes effort to put things in order. Steal, Loot and Embezzle - these are the words the understand. The principal and the management will be collecting PTA and other dues from parents and, yet to put things in order will be a herculean task.
