The answer is no. I worked and stayed in Calabar for up to 8 years. Those people don't know how to speak "broken", good English is their business. Even Nani who has not been to school at all speaks good and polished English in Calabar. But do you know what? they cannot write what they are speaking. I don't mean to talk down on any tribe, I am trying to prove a point that speaking polished English deos not connotes intelligence.

Mind you, the central Yoruba spoken by many is the Oyo dialect.
Akoko dialect in Ondo North is very different from the Oyo dialect. Then you talk of the Owo dialect, Okitipupa dialect, Ore dialect and so on.
This means that you expect every man from Ondo state to learn the Oyo dialect so that they can communicate with each other without problems.
That is equivalent to what the English language or pidgin will do.
i.e. a person from Ondo state including the indigenous Ijaws learning the Oyo dialect may be equivalent to learning the English language or pidgin.
