I've not read about that but if Ozil can sit on the bench and earn a million in less than a month then I don't see what's wrong with paying someone that could potentially move us back into top four that amount.
Everything is wrong to overpay someone wen we can potentially pay him good.

That's really wrong from arsenal sha.
Haba
Like you said 150-180k will be enough.
If Arsenal has insisted on 180k max and he refused and subsequently didn't join the club I'm sure most fans would be cursing the board and blaming them for failing to bring in a quality player.

Mind you, I'm not saying his wages are fair or any other thing like that, I'm just saying we don't know if the money was part of the reason he eventually joined us and not some " I've always been an arsenal fan since I was in my mother's womb " story.

I see most of these football contracts like normal employment contract where people jump ship to another competitor that offers a salary that will be higher than even Ur next salary if u are promoted at Ur work place. E dey happen

But you guys stated earlier that the transfer was almost highjacked by another club but Partey insisted that it must be Arsenal. Don't you think the salary played a big part in that ?

Honestly I must say Arsenal has one of the most emotional fans in the EPL. I've been reading fans' comments on different social media handles since the time arsenal announced 55 staff will be laid off and I must say most of us have really put much emotions into some of our views.

While I understand the COVID-19 brought with it a lot of mental stress, but we should put some things into perspectives when passing a judgement on the club.

1. Arsenal like every other business venture has been hit negatively by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We no longer earn revenue from match day ticket sales( At a time Arsenal's match day ticket was rumored to be the most expensive in the EPL). This among other lost revenue has hit the club so hard that we struggle to balance the books.

2. Arsenal being a football club knows players are the most essential assets they have and in order to continue to at least get the little revenue they can get, the players are definitely untouchable as regards pay cut, redundancy, sack, furlough etc. The only option they have is to encourage players to take paycut which they did ( We all know the player who earns the highest refused)

3. Having dealt with the most essential assets ( the players), it is only normal for for them to see how to cut cost expended on nonessential workers. This is where the issue of the 55 sacked staff came up.

4. Now this is where I say we are being emotional; we have staff whose jobs include steward and some other jobs that involves them working in a full stadium with the fans in the stands. The whole COVID-19 has made their job almost impossible to do. I actually don't see why they should be allowed to hold the job title when the job to be done is not available.

5. I understand they have a family to feed and all, but I want to believe the UK is a more advanced society where workers would've purchased "loss of job insurance" that compensates them for a certain period of time while they are out of job.

6. I know most fans would point at Keronke being rich and could have pumped his money into the club to help save the people's jobs, but unfortunately Arsenal and Keronke are two different entities. He's not under any obligation to pump his money into the club with reckless abandon. It's just like private school teachers grumbling and expecting a school owner to pump his money into paying their salary during the COVID-19 lockdown period. From the viewpoint of a businessman it won't make much sense to him.

7. Lastly I know people would wonder why will Arsenal despite having financial challenges still bring in New players and intend to pay them "high wages", I believe like I said earlier players are the major money making assets of the football club. It is only normal to try and improve the squad, try to finish in a decent position on the log, win one or two competitions so as to boost the dwindling revenue of the club.

This is just my opinion, I may be wrong tho

So what's unique about that , what is your point exactly ? Current number one football club in the world , treble winners and disgracers of Lionel Messi/Barca scored 150 goals last season. One man scored almost 60 of those goals.
Two questions.

Do you think this current Arsenal(with the tactics Arteta employs)can score 150 goals?

Did you not see the part where I asked how many of Arsenal's goals were created by tactical plays rather than individual brilliance? The point is not that Aubameyang is scoring a huge majority of the goals, the point is that he is scoring these goals out of nothing.

Bonus question: How on earth is your response even related to what I asked? Are Arteta and Hansi Flick similar coaches?

You'll pay the person increase from his previous salary.
He was earning 60. In fact I heard it was 35 abi 45 due to corona.
3* the amount won't be bad

But then, I didn't know how the personal negotiations went, so I guess I've no right to say what is right or not as I clarified in my previous post to you.

Ozil has just warmed himself into the hearts of fans.

Having failed to sign an AM, here is a good opportunity to bring him back to that pitch.

Employment contracts (which football contract falls under) don't work the way u see it.

If Arsenal had offered him 180k he may not have been moved to switch jobs. You see ehn most people I know including myself will not switch jobs if the company I'm going will only add little to my current earnings especially when I know my next promotion /new offer of contract will be in the range of what the new place is offering.

Why? Because there is uncertainty where u are going, u are going into a new system where u may fit in or not. You are leaving certainty for uncertainty ; so it is only normal for u to think they will make Ur jumping ship worth the risk by giving u something much more above Ur current pay.

Why do u think Ozil stayed at arsenal? Do u think he really loves arsenal so much like u claimed earlier? Arsenal have him an irresistible offer as at that time and he stayed. That is exactly what Arsenal just did to Partey and he jumped ship sharply.

Future resale might be difficult

It might also influence players seeking new contracts.

Earning a pay rise from 65k to 180k is not little bro. That is roughly 3x of the previous wage.

Which future resale again? We just signed a 27 year old on a 4/5 years contract. By the end of the contract he will be above 30 what future resale are we talking about here?

Any other player that wants to seek new contract will definitely negotiate based on their performance among other factors. Bellerin or Maitland Niles no go wake up one day say they must collect Partey's salary na. There are levels to these things

I'm actually putting the Ozil situation into context here. One of the reason he is still with us is that no team can afford his wage. He have no problem taking a pay cut but Baba want the money more than anything else.

Let me give u analogy.

A young guy who is in his early thirties and works as a financial analyst with let's say an investment bank is somewhere minding his business, gaining more experience and writing CFA exams with the little stipends he gets as salary.

He finally paases CFA level III exams, he now holds a CFA charter and his company is planning on promoting him.....While they are doing this, a bigger company has seen his profile update on LinkedIn that he holds a CFA charter and has hands-on experience so they poach him with a pay that is almost times 10 of his current pay.

Are u going to say the new company is not wise to pay him like times 3 of his current salary instead of the times 10 they offered him?

What I'm trying to say is this ; When Partey negotiated the current pay he had at Athletico he wasn't the key player he is now today, a lot has changed. He has grown from just that Ghana boy that plays for Athletico to a key player that has attracted the interests of top clubs in Europe. In other words his value had increased. This was what necessitated Arsenal giving him an offer he couldn't pass even for loyalty sake.

Ozil is still with us because he's an Arsenal player under contract. Ozil is a very controversial figure who would dabble into politics, religion and other sensitive matters to the chagrin of his employers.

Ozil's wages wouldn't have been a problem if he was a less controversial figure who does his talking with his game play on the pitch and leaves both the fan and management happy.

If Partey would follow Ozil's way then it would mean he would have to be as controversial as ozil has ever been
