Zamfara govt building reserve in gold — Governor
The government says it has so far saved 31 kilograms of the refined metal.

Governor Bello Matawalle has said that the state government has so far saved 31 kilograms of refined gold as a reserve for the state government.

A statement by Zailani Bappa, the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications to the governor, said the move was meant to boost the financial base of the state.

“Already, we have an offer of N5 billion from some interested partners to be supplying them with gold bars over a period of time,” Mr Matawalle revealed.

“The Gold was wholly mined and refined by our local miners. It is a measure we are taking to ensure that the mineral resources in Zamfara benefit the people.

Mr Matawalle said the government will continue to save gold for the state in designated banks, and ensure that the state gets the respect it deserves by having the security needed for any business transaction

He said the gold was purchased by the state government and the idea is also meant to boost the trade in the state.

The situation today is that a few people mine the gold, take it abroad and trade it out there without a single benefit for the people in the state. This is what we want to change,” the governor said.

Mr Matawalle recently took some of the gold bars to President Muhammadu Buhari where the president said it was the first time anyone physically showed him the Zamfara gold.

Anyways, the zamfara gold is not in Commercial quantity as such the federal government may not pay much attention to it.

If zamfara gold can be mined by locals and purchased from them. Why cant the locals in Niger delta drill and sell crude oil to the state government?

Mekaboy, there is ENDSARSPROTEST but you are not lending your voice to it but thinking about zamfara state. Your state Rivers state has suffered more from SARS than any other state.

What's with the silence man. Even your governor has also gone MIA

Before answering your question,I am a full Niger Deltan.
now,The federal government only declare resources that are in commercial quantities as belonging to the federal government.
In this case, the gold in Zamfara (I did my nysc there) is very few and highly low in karat. Thus, the federal government wanting to mine it may end up spending more than they gain thus for now, remains state property.
I'm the other way round, the oil in Niger Delta is in Commercial quantity and is declared fed property .

I am not from rivers. Secondly the SARS issue is a symptom of the main problem (NEPOTISM) of this country.

Just like Resources in the south are controlled by the North, the security agencies are also controlled by the same north. So SARS wont misbehave in the North.

So until Nigeria is restructured, nothing will change.

It would have been an added Advantage if they had found crude.

We think these people are ruling us and benefiting from our oil to our own detriment but I put it to you that, when you travel to the north, you will cry and weep for those people.
They remain underdeveloped, hunger ridden, lack of education, extreme poverty and more.
from what I saw,if they like let they feed on us for 50 years, they can never be like us

Re: Zamfara Gold Or Nigerian Gold? by Paretomaster1(m): 8:58am On Oct 10, 2020
Zamfara gold (like all other resources) is owned by @NigeriaGov, on behalf of Nigeria. Anyone who wants to mine it has to apply for a license, mine, & pay taxes, royalties etc. Anybody can apply for a license; Lagos or Rivers can set up a mining company & apply to mine Zamfara gold,” Ogunlesi tweeted.

Where is it in the Constitution that the fed govt should only pay attention to minerals that exist in commercial quantity?

Angel Michael. I'm sure no member of your family has an oil well attached to their names. Yet an indimi, sanni Bello, rabiu etc have oil wells.
The poverty and illiteracy you see is tactical and not accidental nor natural. The North can be developed if their elites want it so. But ask yourself which system benefits the elites more, egalitarianism or feudalism

bro the gold in Zamfara is not in small quantity.... I have stayed in Zamfara and av worked with some few mining companies... I am as well a geologist.

The gold in Zamfara is just too large, they r just playing politics with it , so as to keep enjoying d oil wealth of the Niger Delta.

Zamfara is blessed as long as gold is concerned....infact their is an area in Anka where gold placers occur

Dont be lazy, visit the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office of the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel, for names of licensed miners.

"Recently, Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara disclosed that Zamfara had partnered some investors to mine gold in the state, displaced illegal miners and organised local miners into cooperative groups under the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Development Initiative (PAGMI)."

There will always be illegal minners, just like we have prole involved in bunkery etc, its left for the govt to tackle their activities..

You're just a Dumbo. Shining your rotten teeth with your ignorance. Most of those local miners were involved in illegal mining. Even their foreign counterparts were also illegal. It's the state that organised them to mine the gold under the so-called presidential initiative.
Now I can ask if the same kid gloves was stretched to oil bunkerers or illegal refiners down south. Mumu
