My Experience With The Police In Africa Vs Europe by Nobody: 2:03pm On Oct 10, 2020 |
Today on my travel experience story As the saying goes, 'The police is your friend' not in Africa may be in Europe. Nowhere in the world is 100 per cent perfect but police in Africa is worse including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Togo, Benin Republic, Mali, Burkina Faso. Africa police all have one thing in common — kidnapping, murder, theft, rape, torture, unlawful arrests, high-handedness, humiliation, unlawful detention, extrajudicial killings, and extortion. I would like to put this here as a Nigerian solo traveller that has visited 36 States of the most populous nation in Africa, Nigeria, also some African countries and European countries. I love travelling more than anything. I like to share my genuine experiences about my travel to people in fact I derived joy from it. So I created a travel blog in 2016 to share my love of travel, adventure, and help inspire others to travel. Here's my experience with Africa and Europe police; Benin Republic — I was harassed by the police for no reason. Togo — police harassed me and took my phone for trying to snap a selfie in their border Ghana — remove Nigeria on the list, Ghanaian police are the most corrupt set in Africa. I visited a friend in 2018, I was told that police arrest and extort Nigerians daily in the country with 100k to 200k bail charges so I started dressing like Ghanaians. To cut a long story short, my first week in the country I came out from the house to take some shot and learn about their culture, I met police at a roadblock in Kasoa so they arrested me and labelled me a fraudster even with my stamped international passport I transferred 50k from my Nigeria account to bail myself. South Africa - I was treated like a rag Mali and Burkina Faso - extortion in this too country is another day story na Nigerians body dem de get power. Kenya - very heartless set of people Egypt - This is the best place I have visited in Africa without police harassing me or treating me like trash. Nigeria (My country) - I have been extorted many times in Nigeria. In Lagos, police took me to their station for putting on a red shoe (I hate red now) drove me to a cyber cafe at Isolo. Forced me to log on my Facebook, searched for cultists orientation related words. They took me to an ATM center and collected all the money in my account, God bless my cousin who sent me 3k for transport that day. Europe: Europe remains the safest continent on earth. I have paid a visit to some of the European countries including Greece, Finland, Sweden, Bulgary. To be very honest, I have not experienced unlawful arrests, high-handedness, humiliation, unlawful detention, and extortion except the day I police asked for my document they checked it and told me 'thanks for your cooperation, we are very sorry'. I have not seen a policeman with an AK-47 since I came to Europe, no fighting, everywhere is so peaceful and calm. I'm sorry, but my English is not very good. I am typing with Russian lang PC too. I am talking about myself, I don't know about you. Share your experience with the police abroad with us. 172 Likes 14 Shares

If you as a leader can't deal with insecurity you will be going to your backyard and bathroom with your security carrying AK 47. In Nigeria the police is used as an instrument by those in authority including the rich and powerful in to commit gross human rights violation at will. If are on queue which require your attention and policemen with Ak 47 come in they will be attended to first. Same with most African police. 4 Likes |

......why always having issues with police in every country you visited? I think it says alot about ur person too. Despite the fact that naija police are bad and that I leave all my life from child til present day in naija, I have never for once had issues with police. .........for you that just visited countries for few weeks if not days, u and police must cross path at all cost. 21 Likes 4 Shares |

The only country I think may be worse than the Nigerian police is the Kenyan thugs in uniform. The NPF is worse than the Ghanian police abeg. Firsthand experience. The NPF can arrest you for nothing. Next thing is arranging a roadside bail for doing nothing illegal. Now wait until you really commit a civil wrong...you'll be treated like a criminal already. Or wait until a big man ropes you in because he feels you should be imprisoned for nothing. You are gone. The NPF is shit. 34 Likes 4 Shares |

Funny how you always have an encounter with police. I've been to alot of african countries and never even had one single encounter abi your face rugged ni? why must you have issue with police? Na only you dey? Although Nigeria isn't perfect but I hardly have any real issue with them. Even the English speaking part of Cameroon that currently has crisis /war I never had one single encounter with police and soldiers despite over 100 check points I came across. I was Traveling from the Capital to Bameda by bus and made this trip twice. All they care about is money You wan use police make front page and it worked. You enter a country and the first people you want to look out for is police. Is your story not funny? The most wicked police right now is Ghana police and i never had any issues .I almost had one encounter at Benin Republic but the police let it slide despite smelling marijuana on us This guy dey lie . Maybe you're also Including other people's experiences ... I no believe abeg 12 Likes |

CollinsWeGlobe: You are right. Police in Africa and MOST ESPECIALLY, Nigeria are worst. However, will like to ask you a question. Who is responsible for footing all your travelling bills? If you are the one, can you please tell us what job you do? Nigerian police will harass you the more if your source of living is highly questionable. Although, you might be free but they will squeeze you dry. So, apart from the fact that generally Nigerian police are worst, they can as well be a huge pain in the ass for people in illegitimate business. If you have a clean source, the harassment won't be more and you will enjoy the country the more. Note: If your source of income is pure, they will never take you to any pos or atm to withdraw your cash. Why will you succumb to that? Thank you |

Just30:I doubt you understood what corruption really is. Anyone manipulating the system to suit his narrative is corrupt. Why should police officers randomly arrest with no sign of criminal vices just to collect bail bond, and you claim such bail bond is not corruption? We haven't forgotten some BBC documentary about corruption in some countries. 6 Likes |
