Guys, how y'all doing?
So I have made up my mind, for real!! To leave this country. I intend to go into music abroad (obodo oyinbo). grin

My kinda music is Trap, Hip hop and sometimes a splash of funk and R&B.
I am looking towards Europe, I would have preferred the North America, mainly US or Canada but, who am I kidding?? I know getting their visa is like searching for an infinity stone, plus the trap and hip hop music industry is really saturated over there.. I no want that Kan competition.. embarassed

So, here is a little thing about me, I am not an official musician Sha, I never enter studio before, buh I have written and recorded some tracks using my laptop and sometimes my phone. The beats were mainly gotten online (free), and to be sincere the songs are really cool. wink

Now, back to the matter, I have a degree already (b.sc), and I know for sure that the education route is probably the most suitable and sustainable way of migrating out of the country, I intend on going for my masters in any country in Europe with a stable economy, and make the music thing my part time job, since most countries allow 20 hours of work a week, which is more than enough to record up to 3 songs in the studio. Pls note I don't plan on abandoning my M.sc, I will definitely find a way to balance the music stuff and school work..

I am ready to learn the language of whatever country I end up in, in other to fuse it into my English trap and hip-hop sound, that is if I don't get an English speaking country like U.K or Ireland.

I just need insights from nairalanders in Europe and those who are well travelled about feasibility of this plan of mine?? smiley

Try Ireland if you have to travel. You can still consider to stay back in Nigeria. Why I advise you to stay back is, in Music Industry today Nigeria is well known for it. Why I am suggesting this is, you can utilize the money you will spend on ticket, BTA and so on to start up your music career in Nigeria by getting yourself a good promoter or record label and you will still be doing your master along side, like National open university you can do your master degree there and still have time for you music. Don Jazy got his popularity from Nigeria despite his UK extradition, Naira Merley the same thing as well as Davido, they all have opportunities to start their music career abroad and remain there but there is no market for them there, that is why they all stick to Nigeria because there is market.
Korede Bello and the rest of these new musician started just recently and see how they are booming, by the time you start and in Nigeria and make then then you can do collaboration with other foreign musician e.g wiskid, Tuface, p squr etc. Think about it and they Lord will guide you.

Thanks for your contribution, but the major reason why I am considering doing the music thing overseas is because of the genre of music I do (Trap), it sells faster over there.. had it been I had interest in Afro kinda sound then I would have surely considered staying back and kicking off the career here...
And again the Masters program I intend on running is more of a technical and IT related course, I feel Nigeria universities are incapable of offering the program at a standard level. Once again thank you..

trap indeed. Can they even hear your accent. Abeg you aint marketable. Trap artists are first known underground. No one will take a Nigerian newcomer serious.

20 hours does not relate to musicians tho. You will need to sort your status after school to be able to get a record deal. Baba e go hard lol

Never thought I would see a post like this
.. Someone who shares similar views as mine. Bro/Sir, if not because I am in Naija, I am supposed to be a celebrated name by now in the music industry. My genre is just the same as yours, man. I have prayed oh, wished oh, hoped oh, but still nothing like a breakthrough came for me. I am as good as majority of the rappers in Yankee, but lack of connection and quality funding has crippled me.
Sir I wish you good luck , 100%.
I know u could use someone like me as a duo . Rap game and hip hop game on point, from my side. But nobody to discover me still! You're gonna need Me bro, and I don't mean this to sound cocky. I'm a humble fella.... just I know the art of music as if it were my birth-right. Cheers Bro.
I wanna hear of you someday.

Nah, pay him no mind, bro. If it is in your DNA, then it is already imbedded in you. Who says Nigerian guy can't have the Yankee flow and do Trap music even more than some home grown folks born and raise in america or Europe? Who said? We all are humans capable of adapting, learning and fitting right in as if we were also born and raised in their countries. That's where talent now comes in and speaks for you. No mind some of these people here oh, their own is to ridicule others, belittle them and mock them all because they think we are all in this same Naija.. As if we don't have exposed and even porsh kids who are in this same Naija .. just do you, in th end.... neve know who might lift you up.

So, as for me I would advise the following countries for consideration : Malta , Sweeden, Norway (I have seen tv documentaries on the music culture there) , and as usual, the USA. You cannot leave US out of the list of most suitable ....If I was opportuned , I'll migrate to America and kick off my music career since its already home to the culture of hip-hop . But yo u will face oppositions o, but if u act right then u will get lucky and breakthrough .
