But the plot was thwarted after Hussein Afolabi, a criminal law expert who has been advising the families, told the families the implications of going ahead with the police's scheme.

Two families who lost their loved ones after police officers fired live ammunition to #EndSARS protesters in Ogbomoso on Sunday have come under unbridled police intimidation, according to People's Gazette.

The online news outlet reported that the police leadership stepped in after Taiwo Adeoye and Moshood' Akeju' Abdulganiu were killed by officers, prevailing on their families not to pursue an investigation into the killings.

Babalola Sarafa, a police superintendent and divisional police officer in Ogbomoso, successfully hustled the families into swearing affidavits, rejecting an autopsy on the victims and demanding their immediate burial.

The families were also compelled to swear that they do not want the police murder of their loved ones investigated or prosecuted.

The DPO quickly wrote to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, asking the chief medical director to release the bodies to the families for burial immediately.

But the plot was thwarted after Hussein Afolabi, a criminal law expert who has been advising the families, told the families the implications of going ahead with the police's scheme.

Babalola and the Force Headquarters did not return separate requests seeking comments from the Gazette on Thursday evening.

Adeoye and Abdulganiu were murdered by police officers when they joined other citizens to participate in the worldwide march to demand an end to police brutality in downtown Ogbomoso, a historic Yoruba settlement just 100 kilometres north of Ibadan.

While Abdulganiu was killed at the protest venue, Adeoye was murdered when residents besieged the palace of the town's traditional ruler to mourn the dead and challenge police's use of lethal force in responding to their protests.

The previous day, residents of the town had witnessed similar chaos when police fatally shot Jimoh Isiaq, a 20-year-old technical apprentice. Isiaq was summarily buried in line with his Muslim faith, preempting autopsy.

But the circumstances that surrounded the killing of Adeoye and Abdulganiu were more fluid and consequential for both the police and the Nigerian government.

For one, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, was present at the palace when Adeoye was killed. He had made an emergency trip to Ogbomoso, his hometown, to condole with the families of Mr Isiaq and encourage peace in the #EndSARS protest.

But when the community youth descended on the palace with the corpse of Abdulganiu, Dare's police orderlies and soldiers reportedly opened fire in a bid to save their principal, killing Adeoye and wounding several others, witnesses told Peoples Gazette.

Shortly after he hurried out of the palace, Dare moved to take charge of emerging narrative out of Ogbomoso, tweeting without evidence that the protesters were hoodlums who tried to kill, maim and wreck the palace.

The minister's tweetstorm was silent on how his orderlies opened fire, much fewer condolences and investigation.

The police's handling of the matter and Dare's apparent cover-up tactics provided a serious ground for a thorough investigation, but the officer saw the families as less challenging to intimidate into helping them suppress autopsy, Gazette's findings showed.

Governor Seyi Makinde had promised a thorough investigation into the violence unleashed against the protesters by the police when he visited the deceased's families on Tuesday, including an autopsy and ballistic examinations.

Fearful of all potential inquiries into the killings, Sarafa approached the families, after discussing with Ogbomoso area commander, Yemi Oyeniyi, and Oyo police commissioner, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, police sources said.

The police asked Adeyemi Adeoye, a member of Adeoye's family, to swear an affidavit for his body's release without an autopsy.

Fasilat Abdulganiu and Lawal Tajudeen, who described themselves as members of Abdulganiu's family, also swore affidavit for the release of his remains without an autopsy.

The affidavits were sworn between October 13 and 14, and Sarafa subsequently wrote to the chief medical director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital to release the bodies.

But after Afolabi caught wind of the plot, he asked the families to withdraw the affidavit from the police and allow investigations to continue.

"The police have no powers to compel a family to swear an affidavit against an autopsy," Afolabi said.

"We will ensure that justice is done in this case."

The newspaper confirmed that LAUTECH Teaching Hospital had conducted autopsies for the victims, and preliminary reports would be made public shortly.

The intimidation of both families came as Nigerians are demanding a thorough investigation into police's handling of the #EndSARS protesters across the country, which Amnesty International said had left at least ten killed by officers.

The attack on Soun's Palace and it's heavy destruction has political undertone,

The Compensation of Soun of Ogbomosho with whooping 100million and the victims family 1 million shows Politicians are complicit and hiding something.

both Sunday Dare Minister from Oyo State and Seyi Makinde the Governor of Oyo State needs to allow independent investigation

The aim behind #EndSARS protest has been achieved or about to(if not), let's all throw our support behind these essential demands

This should be our concern NOW.

THE 7-POINT DEMANDS
Concerned Nigerian started this petition to Nigerian government and 1 other
We recognize that this moment is the culmination of decades of dissatisfaction over the decay and corruption of our dear country, Nigeria.
We find the unhealthy haste to fashion a unit termed “SWAT” to be a misrepresentation of the 5for5 demand. It is not enough.
This protest is beyond #EndSARS, #EndSWAT, #EndPoliceBrutality. This movement is for the soul of Nigeria. We are demanding a systemic overhaul of governance and institutional reforms as the barest minimum. We are better than what obtains presently; we demand progress.
We are not vain agitators. We are clear-eyed youths and professionals in our respective fields who are tired of the way and manner our dear country has been run aground by successive administrations. We cannot idly stand by whilst our future and that of our children are mortgaged.
Below is the updated 7-point demand that concerned citizens are asking from the government.
1. INSTITUTIONAL REFORMS (SECURITY)
That the 5-point demand to release arrested protesters, compensate families of victims, investigate and prosecute all reports of misconduct, proscribe SARS and review the welfare of police be implemented immediately.
However, we believe the systemic rot in the police is widespread across Government institutions. Therefore, we urgently demand an immediate Institutional reform across all federal government institutions, agencies and parastatals, especially focused on national security.
Focus will be on improved welfare and terms of service for the police, military and all law enforcement agencies, provide body worn cameras for operation, refurbished housing, health, academic and pre- and post-retirement life insurance policy for the rank-and-file personnel.
Also reforms on adherence to the laws guiding discipline and prosecution of erring service men this should be aimed at extinguishing all notions of impunity.
2) COST OF GOVERNANCE
We have watched over the years the waste associated with governing Nigeria. We have noted the duplication and unprofessionalism in the civil service and across all strata.
We demand an urgent budgetary framework with 50% capital expenditure and 50% recurrent expenditure in all appropriation bill.
We demand a drastic reduction in the cost of governance. We also demand that the national assembly, be first by streamlined into a unicameral legislative and be further stripped down to become a part time job.
The huge salaries and benefits accorded them by the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) should be reduced to the barest minimum.
3) CONSTITUTION REFORMS
There had been several constitutional reviews where youths were obviously absent. Whether by omission or commission or both, the time has come for an informed and progressive participation by the youths.
The Nigerian constitution as it exists presently does not serve all Nigerians. A more robust and engaged constitution designed and approved by all Nigerians will serve the nation.
We demand an urgent referendum within 90 days to begin the line-by-line review, reconstruction and upgrade of the extant constitution to be more functional for a 21st Century nation. The selection process for this referendum will have 50% young people under 60 nominated by their peers in a transparent, judicious and fair process.
We demand that credence be given to terms of citizenship over indigeneship and state of residence over state of origin.
4) EDUCATION REFORMS
· One in every five of the world's out-of-school children is a Nigerian child. About 13.2 million Nigerian children aged 5-14 years are not in school. The impact of this numbers will be felt for generations.
· We demand that a state of emergency is declared in the education sector and demand increase in the budgetary allocation to educational sector by 50% and to double again within the next 24 months. This funds will be used to drive the education sector to provide affordable quality education to all citizens.
· A certain percentage of this allocation should be devoted to granting scholarship to outstanding Nigerians without recourse to the tribe, religious or sex.
· We demand a systemic overhaul in our curriculum and method of teaching to upgrade to a digital experience.
· We demand that teachers should be incentivized to attract the best brains and should be standardized and professionalized.
· We demand that the parent of any child not in primary school will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
· We demand that there be an Annual independent external Audit of Fund allocation and project execution: from Government approval to disbursement across the ministry, which would further be used to publish at least an abridged Financial statement available digitally to ensure transparency.
5) HEALTH REFORMS
· We demand that a state of emergency is declared in the health sector and demand increase in the budgetary allocation to health sector by 50%
· We demand mandatory health insurance for the vulnerable population in our society as NHIS is not doing enough to serve all Nigerians.
· We demand that adequate provision be put in place to protect the rights and privileges of physically challenged citizens in Nigeria.
· We demand urgent attention to mental health and a fund to set aside to create more professionals.
· We demand proper implementation of the National Health Act of 2014, including the Basic Health Care Provision Fund).
· We demand that there be an Annual independent external Audit of Fund allocation and project execution: from Government approval to disbursement across the ministry, which would further be used to publish at least an abridged Financial statement available digitally to ensure transparency.
6) YOUTH AFFAIRS REFORM
We have noted the giant strides made by Gen Z and Millennials across the globe. Many multi-billion corporations where founded by both generations. In Nigeria, it is extremely difficult for such to occur. The enabling environment viz-a-viz investors and lenders confidence, stable interest rate and manageable inflation are deficit in our dear nation.
· We demand that a state of emergency be declared in the ministry of Youths and Sports, Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of National Planning. We demand that this should be adequately funded, sports academy should be revamped.
· We demand the creation of the Youth development funds dedicated to growing the creative industries and agriculture.
· We demand the creation of the Youth development funds dedicated to growing the creative industries and agriculture.
· We demand that the Not-Too-Young to run bill should be expanded to include–50% inclusion of youth under 40 in every cabinet in government.
· We demand that the youth inclusion be monitored by the FCC as they currently monitor state inclusion and the NCDMB and other stakeholders partake in this action to protect our future.
7) PUBLIC OFFICE REFORMS
· We demand code of conduct reforms for all elected public office holders to have themselves and their children use public schools and public hospitals ONLY. Violation of which is immediate impeachment and recall.
· We demand immediate removal of immunity clause from public office holders to make them answerable to investigations at all times when and where necessary.
· We demand immediate resignation of every public officer found guilty of any forms of crimes and corruption they should step aside during investigation also.
· Implementation of full digitization of the judicial process, prison decongestion reforms, with reforms drawn from past projects like the Uwais Report, Keyamo’s ministerial screening address, strict time limits to determination of industries litigations, etc.

It is time we get things right in this country. This is a business account, but I don't fu*king give a damn at this moment.

Let the worse happen!

Being a senator or representative of any group doesn't deter you from having other pursuits.

There should be overall reconstructuring , and the slashing down of allowances, salaries, and benefits that pertain to governance.

When a governor is given an allocation, there has to be visible evidence and accountability. These old fat cargoes need to be given a pamphlet detailing their job description and the target goals.

When they fail to attain these goals, they should have an explanation to make. They should be held accountable and appropriate punishment carried out.

Nigeria is not a wasteland where everyone is fighting to fill his pocket. What kind of a discombobulated nation is this?

Every system has to be working, we are fucking rich for Christ's sake. If we are to utilize our resources well, America will be nowhere near us.

We have the brain, we have the mental and physical capability. Do you know the best part? Despite the bad reputation that we've amassed, Nigeria still stands as one of the great nations of the world.

Why do you think almost all the countries are secretly against Nigeria? The majority of websites today have already banned Nigerian IPs before they even commence business.

And when everyone tends to hate a certain individual, there has to be something unique and interesting.

I'm proud to be a Nigerian, and I fight for restructuring, right from the presidency to the grassroots - the local government chairmen and those that serve below.

Being in office is not an opportunity to loot, but to prove yourself based on the limited resources given. When you fail to achieve the goals set out, you'll be held accountable. This is what we are asking for.

As simple as that... When every system is working, crime will reduce, and the economy will flourish.
