Everyone in ONELGA and Orashi by extension is talking about #EndSARS #ENDSARSBrutality #EndPoliceBrutality #ReformPolice.
Those are issues affecting us no doubt, but the talking point should also include #EndFloodingInOrashi #DredgeOrashiRiver #ProtectOurShores.
Flood related menace has affected us in Orashi region more greatly than SARS. But government at all levels have paid little or no attention to it.
The situation in Rivers State, Orashi and ONELGA in particular should be likened to farmers /herders situation in which farmers produce are being destroyed on daily basis without remorse but with intimidation and killings. ONELGA produces but government consumes leaving her with poverty and sufferings.
The money used in building the over head bridges simultaneously in Port Harcourt if invested in Orashi region, will see an end to the end annual flood menace confronting Orashi region.
Year after year, people are been displaced by flood, farm lands (crops, plants, etc.) ravaged, leaving hunger in the land. At the end, NEMA, State Government, Local Governments will come to distribute 2 cups of rice and 3 inches foams, in the name of relief materials, with over bloated budgetary allocations.
We don’t need those materials any more! What we need is dredging of Orashi river, we need protection of our shores, we need drainages.
