It was reported on twitter too. It was said that the governor refused to answer some questions and wanted to leave but he was barricaded. He then ordered to be driven through the protesters which killed and injured. Reason for the attack on him.

The gov came down with his security details to speak with them but the protesters told him he shouldn't near or talk to them with his security details and he was also accused of sending thugs to attack them. Already they(protesters) were already prepared for any further attack from the thugs.
So the governor told his details to wait behind and he went there to meet them.
They had discussion which along the line some people started insulting the governor, one thing led to another, fight started and there were gunshots from both sides(the governor's security details and those protesters).

Yeah, but what I can't say is the "saying people doesn't want to hear part".
I don't know what they discussed but the governor left his security and went to the midst of the protesters and they were discussing with one mic. One thing led to another and the protesters started insulting the governor that he is the one that sent thugs to attack them but he responded that he's not the one, that he traveled to Lagos or so, those protesters asked him to mention one person as witness to his claim that he traveled.

Those boys were ready for those thugs sha, but u know when things happen, different versions of stories will come up.
