kokaneprodigy: Jodera:I mean, even if you will not play him all the games or start him but can you imagine the possibilities if Ozil came off the bench to play the last 10-15 minutes of today's game? A period we dominated possession and controlled the game with City begging for the final whistle? I mean, what is there to lose? We were already down 1-0. |

Jodera:If Pepe had played half of what Saka played yesterday, we would've won the match. Sometimes I do wonder if it was Saka we signed for a club record fee or Pepe ![]() |

Roland17:It's just annoying. For those clamouring for willian to play Am, that guy can't do nada in Am. We really lack an incisive passer in this team. Work rate sef we know willian for, we no dey see am. The less said about Pepe, the better. How I wish they should just bring ozil back abeg, we really really really need him. |

BlueRayDick:My brother, this thing tire me oo. Pepe can't even beat his man( what we do know him for). In fact, as the week progresses, it's the more I'm getting tired of Pepe To be sincere, I'm thinking we just waste our money, cos I'm not seeing any improvement in him. It's funny how our wings with pepe and willian flanking it is just dead. No movt, no penetration, no interchange passes. Just so so poor. Kudos to saka for ystdy game |

Apart from Ozil, one player i will like to see in our team is Nelson. Our wingers were all playing rubbish yesterday. BTW Pep should dash us Silva now,i felt i was watching Santi yesterday. |

I was shouting we need an AM all transfer window. This kick and follow football is not sustainable particularly against top teams. We hardly dominate when we play top teams even the ones we won. |

mostob:Lol.. Aside saka, I don't see any winger that truly impresses me in our squad. It's really sad. I was thinking willian might improve our wing problem a bit, but mehn! Well, he didn't even play wing ystdy, but then, he's been underwhelming for us since (aside Fulham game) |

kokaneprodigy:Lol, even Arteta knows we need an Am that's why he was after aouar. The problem is that why doesn't he just convince the board to make him use ozil, since we couldn't get an Am Tbh, if we still stick to 343 formation, we no go smell top 4. It's just so so bad, we badly need an Am, and we have one languishing in his mansion |

Did not watch the whole match except the last 20 mins or so. Easily I can say shout out to Gabriel and Partey. First ball he received with his back to goal in the defensive mid position with a player on him and he was able to use his upper body to shrug off the player and still make a pass. Plus the yellow he took trying to help stop a counter. If this is what he brings consistently then I am happy. Gabriel is just a very good defender nothing else. There are a few problems which need to be addressed and it's about our pressing which is still not coordinated enough and the decision to know when to play out from the back and when to go long. City literally blocked all lines for us to make passes from defence into midfield by pressing all the way to our half line. This is where I expected our defenders to go long and beat that line with a single pass. We need to stop being predictable. City were there for the taking but most of our players were too timid. I think Arteta really now needs to consider a proper 433 if he desires since we have a quality player in thomas and allow more bodies in midfield . Lastly the curious case of ozil. In my opinion , a manger lives and dies by his decisions. If Arteta believes ozil is not in his plans then so be it. I believe no one is in the position to know better what a player brings or not to his team. Honestly if some of the things I mentioned are perfected on a consistent basis. I see a very strong team in the making plus team selection should also be looked into critically to make this work Plenty analysis but let me stop here fo now |

arteta was the one that killed the match, why on earth will he bench lacazette for willian...and why will he use willian as the top nine.... |

Players in my opinion should be judged over the course of a season and not on a few games here and there. The jury is out on all signings this season. But some have already started impressing with consistent good performances. For those that have had a full season and still below par, they need to wake up fast as this regime is zero tolerant to underperforming players |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by pazienza(m): 12:53pm On Oct 18, 2020 |
I don't understand all this clamouring for Ozil. Ozil was in Arsenal team that got hammered 4-0, 6-0 and other ridiculous scorelines in recent past by City. He has never been known to turn up for big away games even at his peak in 2015/16. He offered nothing then he was supposedly at his peak in games against City. What make fans think he could now in old age? What sort of shortsightedness is this? We created goal scoring chances yesterday. Saka had one on one against Ederson that should have been converted but wasn't, Auba who I am getting worried about now, had his own chance too and squandered it. You don't get too many of such clear cut chances in such tight games , when you do, you have to convert them, we didn't and that's why we lost. We also limited City clear cut chances but they at least took one of their chances and scored and that's the difference. It was a cagey game, yet not for once did it look like City were going to score lots of goals against us. They struggled to carve us open too. Going forward Willian should never play CF and Pepe needs to upgrade or get benched. Overall, I think we did well. City and Liverpool away are on paper the toughest EPL fixtures for us this season and we have gotten them out of the way while still being above the likes of Chelsea on the table. Auba is getting too comfortable too after his contract renewal, benching him to play Saka on LW and Laca on CF with Willian, Nelson or Pepe on RW wouldn't be a bad idea. No one should be too big to be benched , we have to keep everyone on their toes. Having Auba on bench to come on when Defenders are tired to run them down could well work for him and us until he gets his mojo back. |

In case many didn't notice, Guardiola packed the bus too. He played with 5 defenders and neutralized our front men . It was a cagey game where anyone who took their chances would emerge winners and so it proved. |

pazienza:The arsenal that was getting hammered cricket scores is different from this arsenal. That arsenal never lay emphasis on defence. That arsenal was easily bullied. But this arsenal isn't easily bullied, this arsenal is strong defensively compared to the previous arsenal. Yes we did carve out some chances and limited man city to few chances too. But ystdy game clearly was crying out for not necessarily ozil but a good Am. The game too against Liverpool was crying for an Am too. I guess nobody would have looked at ozil twice if we have a good AM, but since we don't have presently and we have one is his mansion, why don't we integrate him. That's what everyone is saying. Also, auba missed chance and saka missed. But you clamouring for auba to go to the bench isn't the best way to go about it. Auba is a 9, and he's not playing as the 9(due to Arteta tactical switch), why don't you deploy him as a 9 instead of benching him cos he missed a goal. Every one knows he isn't so efficient on the wing aside his scoring, now that he's been found out, why not play him in his normal position, instead of benching him? Or you think benching him won't send a wrong signal to his teammates? It seems you want Arteta to lose the dressing room shey? But like you said, we move. Let's see how we'll play against Leicester |

pazienza:I agree with your points except the last paragraph where u talked about bringing Auba on from the bench. It's just like saying any Tottenham coach to bench Harry Kane and bring him on from the bench when opposing defenders are tired; It ain't gonna happen. Auba is arguably our biggest goal threat any day any time. With Auba on the pitch opposition fullbacks always think twice before joining attack because they know how fast Auba can be and how deadly his finishing is. |

I reallybdont know why Willian is not being allowed to play our freekicks. I know Pepe and Luiz are good freekick takers but Willian seems to be better going by his days at Chelsea and even his first game at Arsenal; he hit one superb freekick that hit the bar few inches away from hitting the net. The freekicks Pepe and Luiz took yesterday ; at least one of it should've gone Willian's way |

pazienza:To be honest, I didn't notice he packed the bus neither did I notice he used 5 defenders. We were still out possessed. In fact, I don't remember us pouring fire for fire and Manchester city going all defensive that you might feel they packed the bus. Maybe we watched a different game sha |

pazienza:Not that I’m advocating for Ozil but This ur analysis is flawed in so many ways. Xhaka, Bellerin, Laca, Auba were also at the end of those cricket scores at some point and they played yesterday. We could easily attribute that to coaching. Blaming Ozil for conceding cricket scores is highly mischievous. Also saying he doesn’t turn up in every big games is another lie unless u want to say he didn’t play when we trashed LVG’s Man-U 3-0 before half time during, or when we trashed Chelsea 3-0 where he scored a volley after combining well with Sanchez. I could go on. But it seems y’all think if u keep repeating same lie over and over it becomes the truth. |

BlueRayDick:He also blamed him for the cricket scores in the away games and I pointed at 4 players that have suffered same fate and featured yesterday. I don’t even want to dwell on this cos we all know Ozil isn’t playing and it’s got nothing to do with his performance he featured in over 70% of Arteta’s games before the lockdown and played well. We all know it’s cos of pay cut saga. |
| Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by BlueRayDick: 2:40pm On Oct 18, 2020 |
kokaneprodigy:well, I don't know how u understand his post but from what I read I feel his point was that Ozil wouldn't have changed the outcome of that match. He said Ozil featured in matches in which we lost scandalously vs man city even in his prime which is a fact. I don't think that translates to him blaming Ozil for those loses, it only means we have lost matches Ozil played active part in; so clamours for Ozil to have featured in yesterday's match seems quite amusing. |

BlueRayDick:Even C Ronaldo and Messi have featured in games that their sides lost scandalously. Does that mean they can never be resourceful in such games again? I pointed out 4 players that have also featured in such games in the past and they featured yesterday, by his formula we should have conceded cricket scores again since football is now algebra. |

kokaneprodigy:Those other players have shown they can play in Arteta system. Even so, Xhaka is still maligned, and we all agree he is not the answer to our midfield problems. Bellerin was guilty for the goal for allowing Foden too much space and I am not a fan of his as I believe he is a poor/average defender. Lacazette was rightly condemned for his missed chances against Liverpool and have since then been banished to bench roles by Arteta. So don't speak like we don't think those above named players should be dropped too. Problem is that we don't have money to change them all at a go. And when played they show efforts even though their lack of abilities let them and us down in the end. It also helps that they are not on basic 350k salaries and bogus match benefits, they are also not into politics and religion controversies like Ozil is. The matches we won with Ozil you mentioned above were years ago and I recall they were home matches. Do we need an AM? Yes! Do we need Ozil? No! We definitely need a top AM not named Ozil. My opinion though. |

kokaneprodigy:When you play with 5 defenders at the back, what do you call that? They had the lion share of the possession and had some chances. But Leno was never really tested or over worked. They chances were mainly hopeful outside eighteen shots and some routine straight down the middle shots Leno easily caught. I don't recall them subjecting us under immense pressure with too many top saves required from Leno to keep us in the game. They had the possession, but it was a harmless one. Ederson was certainly City man of the match , those two top saves from Auba and Saka one on one attempts from him won the game for them. That's a testament to how solid we were in the match. |
