There are in fact a couple of cases where the virus lingered in the air of an elevator car, and then infected a person who entered that space ALONE, several minutes later, suggesting that this particular lady's concerns were valid, and had little to do with bigotry.

Your comments on here are gold but I think you erred big time and I totally disagree with you on this issue.

I’m with this ‘self important man’. What he is fighting and resisting isn’t just for him alone. Lots of people are facing same scenario in different forms.
Covid shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hide the Oriental woman’s motives. Shame on her. First of all, if she was concerned about being in such a space with other people, she should wear a face covering...that’s the first step, then she should’ve stepped off the elevator if she was worried about getting any infections off the man....this man was also without face mask and was speaking directly to her...with possible emission of some aerosol(saliva)...how long does the lift take to descend to the floor level where they were supposed to get off?.....and how long was this man speaking and recording this video for?

If this man was Covid +ve and infectious, the length of time the annoying woman was delaying their journey is more than enough to infect her multiple times compared to the duration on time the elevator would have taken to descend...yes I know the door was open with possible ventilation compared to when the door shuts but she would’ve been infected quicker when this man was complaining.

I’m careful about stereotyping people or using the word racism and I wouldn’t apply it here just yet however the woman’s action should be condemned and I hope she’s queried for this.

You have made a strong point, that the Chinese woman's failure to wear a face mask, while insisting on riding the elevator alone, is indicative of racism, rather than of a desire to avoid infection. I pondered that discrepancy myself, but still and all, I would have let her go alone, and played it off like I wasn't aware of her possible true motive for insisting on occupying the elevator alone.

The sad truth is that black men, especially if they are physically large, do frighten SOME closed-minded women of other races, so, rather than insist on boarding an elevator with a woman who clearly feels threatened by my presence in such close quarters, I would defuse the situation by swallowing my anger, and politely backing off to await the next free elevator. I agree that very few people would agree with this philosophy that I have, but it served me well over many years as a resident of Southern California.

It is not absolutely necessary to point out injustice, or bigotry, on every occasion it is observed. Sometimes, pretending to be oblivious, is alright.
