The Canadian Government says it targets receiving 1 . 2 million immigrants from 2021 to 2023 in order to make up for a shortfall caused this year by the pandemic .

Immigration Minister , Marco Mendicino , told a news conference on Friday that the plan calls for accepting 401 , 000 new permanent residents in 2021 ; 411 , 000 in 2022 ; and 421 , 000 in 2023 — an immigration rate equal to about one per cent of Canada ’ s population .

“ The key to both short- term economic recovery and long- term prosperity is immigration , ” Mendicino said , according to AFP.

Canada , one of the top destinations of Nigerians , had expected to bring in 341 , 000 skilled workers , family members of Canadians and refugees this year.

But because of closed borders and visa offices, quarantines and few available international flights , only a fraction came .

“ As with every other aspect of our lives , the pandemic has affected migration to Canada , ” the minister commented.

The new target is about 50 , 000 per year higher than the previous goal .

To help make up the shortfall , Mendicino said the government would offer permanent resident status to temporary foreign workers , international students and asylum claimants already in Canada .

He noted that immigrants have been “ critical” to Canada ’ s pandemic response , representing one in four health care workers in hospitals and elderly care homes . They also account for one - third of business owners in Canada .

“ Whether they’ ve been taking care of our most vulnerable , or putting food on our tables , newcomers have played an outsized role in our response to Covid - 19 , ” he said .

Scam Canada always talks all these b.s

Then at the end if the day they'll put you up against with fellow migrants from all over the world and collect the most qualified, highest earning migrants what nonesense

Edit: I don't give a fork what or who Canada takes I'm all for transparency stop advertising it like it's gonna be a free for all where they'll take every and anybody to be accepted you need qualifications and better bar better mula better ego you know what I mean.

As for those quoting me I am well qualified for the country I love so that's not a problem for me in your Canada PhD holders dey drive taxi dey sell for corner store where my own destiny is we are treated better, I may get a PhD sha based on how body sweet me reach but not because it is a necessity unlike my Canadian counter parts who need it and have to spend truckload of money to get it my PhD if I chose to go for it will be free infact I will be paid while doing it.✌️

For many, making it in Nigeria is not the problem. Rather, quality of life and a semblance of good governance, both of which Nigeria lack. The SARS menace is a very big issue for many. Also, considering the stoopid and incompetent people at helms of affairs (look at the responses by the Lagos HoA members - Nigeria's most exposed state. Now, imagine how HoA members in Taraba, Benue, C/River etc., reason? grin), declining income, rising population etc., Nigeria is better experienced from afar than inside.

why are the rich and politicians in Nigeria giving birth abroad making their kids dual citizens Why do they all school their kids abroad. With your money if you have a medical emergency and call an ambulance you know you will die before / if they come. Even if you make it to the hospital they may not have things like oxygen or diagnostic equipment. Bad roads nko
