Wickedness and Nigeria are like brother and sister.

What a country ; no mercy, no empathy , no humanity and yet they have churches at every street corner.

So, stop breeding children in gross like my brothers down North if you don't wish to turn them to beggars, kidnappers, Yahoo Yahoo, criminals etc.
Poor people bear more children. Why?

A federal hospital has no business detaining patients.

They should be a way to write off such debts on behalf of the FG

Even a middle class Nigerian will have a hard time paying that amount.

The problem isn't the lady or the man, but the medical sector and Nigeria as a whole.

Sometimes I wonder how far weed have clogged your brain, but I think it's time to get sober and reason clearly.

Thank you.

In as much as Hospitals are not a charity organisation, there should be provision for cases like this.

Probably a pro bono purse to help people who they've verified are unable to pay their bills.

There ought to be in an ideal situation & in a sane country. Nigeria doesn't qualify as both. If d leaders can hoard something as insignificant as indomie, then healthcare will be too big to provide

The Management of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has released a young woman who was detained in the hospital for six months over unpaid bills.

IgbereTV gathered that the patient, Bidemi Taiwo was admitted in the hospital on March 23, 2020. She gave birth to a baby boy through cesearan section but lost the child.

Since then authorities of the UBTH detained her over non-payment of the bills said to be over five hundred thousand naira.

A lawyer, Jefferson Uwoghiren who took up the case, confirmed the latest development on Saturday, October 31.

He wrote:

Bidemi's father, a peasant farmer Mr Sunday Oyebamiji has thanked the management of the UBTH for their magnanimity in writing off the debt which, as at August 2020, accrued to about six hundred thousand Naira. He also appreciated Mr Jefferson and his team for their support.

Meanwhile, Mr Jefferson in a statement issued in Benin City on October 29, said that it is a criminal offense to detain a patient over a civil debt without court order.

Many Nigerians had become slaves in their father's Land. Nothing is free in this country to have a child is another problem in this country

This country is rife with wickedness. Instead of the woman to sue the hospital for a botched C&S and the loss of her baby, the hospital even went ahead to detain her for 6 months. Yet, this is even a government hospital, not a private one.
This country is ripe for fundamental changes.

@ least they treated her commendable.. She would have been left to die if it were other private hospitals

They didn't do well enough if you ask me, teaching hospital owned by government for that matter.
So, they could release her and still not fold up, then why detaining her for six months?
She could have been allowed to work part-time and allowed to enjoin her freedom.
Her bill could have been considered as how they're giving back to the society.
I'm sure that her bill wasn't 500k naira initially.

At leats, some people still know the law,and are ready to use it to save others who are helpless.
But i beg,let their be a law where a president(especually)/any public office holder, who fails in his duties, should quietly step down,or be pushed out and serve some sentence in jail for unnecessary obduracy.
