Just a slight alteration in the angle of fire can have exponentially different impacts. If a gun is fired directly upwards, the bullet is harmless but just a few degree of variation even less than 45 degrees can render that bullet dangerous enough to inflict injury but not to kill.

That's what the evidence points to with respect to the soldiers who shot at Lekki.

This is what I'm saying. No soldier is an armature shooter. They understand the dynamics very well. If there was an alteration in the angle, then it was with the intention to kill. But there is no evidence that the military only shot in the air. Or is it the widely circulated video they branded photoshopped?

Lots of holes in this write-up...Seems the grand agenda is just to establish that there was indeed a massacre....

However, the Nigerian govt made a terrible mistake for mobilizing soldiers to quell a civil protest. Soldiers are trained to shoot and kill. It's high time Nigerian leaders learnt that soldiers aren't meant to be deployed for internal peace-keeping operations, be it riots or not. They should rather equip the police and the Civil Defence Corps to perform their constitutional duties effectively. Riots are quelled by water canons, tear gases, and rubber bullets in better climes.

At the same time, the protest was already turning into another thing on that fateful day when hoodlums started attacking police officers and setting police stations on fire. In Benin City, there was a prison break on the pretence of a peaceful protest.

Also, a lot of people with parochial political interests hijacked the protest as a means of overthrowing the current government.

I still don't trust any Nigerian news report about this incidence. Nigerian journalists are amateurs as far as investigative journalism is concerned, and they let emotion override their professional judgement. I would be happy if it can be investigated by a foreign agency.
