Why Students Must Protest Against ASUU Strike. by Seikiri1: 7:01pm On Nov 06, 2020
Good day my good people of nairaland and fellow students across the country.

It is no longer news that the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) had since embarked on an indefinite strike action which had lasted for over 7months now and ever since they have been dialoguing with the Federal government to come to terms. But all attempts seems to be futile and as such keeps on prolonging the strike and creating uncertainty in the minds of students who are the most affected in the whole process of the strike.
According to a wise saying " when two elephants fights, it's the grass suffers". That is the condition of students in the this strike action.

Why will i say that the students are the ones that suffers most!!!
I. Those that are in their final year that are supposed to write their last exams and probably go for youth service will have to be put on this long uncertain wait.
II. Those that are supposed to have gone for their
industrial training ( IT ) has been put on this long and uncertain wait.
III. Students with their landlords will have to go a head to head battle because of this incessant strike.
IV. Those that were newly admitted that never attended a single class before the strike action will be massively affected because of this long uncertain strike.
The list could go on and on, these are just but a few.

What is the way forward for the students!!!
Since there is no way to back out of this strike by both parties, it is now left for the students nation wide from various public institutions to take things in different dimension and force the government to come to a solution to this problem. There is only one language the government understands and hear and attend to issues swiftly and that is a ' NATION WIDE PROTEST BY STUDENTS' .

If you could recall during the last protest tagged #endsars the ministry of labour and employment which is been headed by Sen. Chris Ngige who is in charge of the negotiation between the ASUU and the federal government made a statement that triggered the reconvening of the negotiation.
He accused the union of ASUU of being the reason why students engaged in the protests.
This is where the students at large must take advantage of if we want something positive fast.
We must stage a protest nation wide because the government does not want a protest and as such it will make the government to act fast in coming to terms with ASUU.
Through this medium i want to urge,The NANS president, all student Union Presidents of various institutions to come to together and send the government a strong message that if we don't get a positive results in less than a certain numbers of days that we gave to them we will go on a nation wide protest.
They must act on it and if they don't we go on the protest nation wide.

Please share this to every well meaning Nigerian most especially to the students.

#EndASUUstrike
God bless nairaland and God bless Nigeria.

I really agree that a protest is the only way.
The strike is far too long and if we keep waiting nothing would happen.

Nigeria is the only county who appropriates 10% of its national budget to education. Even Senegal appropriates 20% to education.

But I don’t think a protest would work because the students are divided.
There are some students who are happy with the strike. We need a united front as students to end ASUU strike

many elites that suppose to put mouth for this issue keep quiet because it doesn't concern them.

I'm suggesting we should peacefully move to close all universities (states and privates) that have resumed because we are all Nigeria students and they cannot be in school while we are not.

TN: two or three days notice might be given to them.

if all Nigeria students are at home(poor and rich), I think there should be solution insha Allah.

I think this is the best opinion.
became if all the student keep quiet, they will think we are ok with the strike
but if we come together and protest, they will act fast because they wont want the world to know how weak the educational system here in nigeria is.

Too many speculations and suggestions everywhere without putting in the work won't give us any result.

Let's start working out with the plans now.

what we need from each of our students is the contact of the class rep. this way, a clearer message of what we hope to do will be swiftly passed along to all students affected.

and pls, if in any way you know your course Rep is not the type that can carry your mates along, rather give us the contact of anyone of your mates who can pass this message along.

I think both a watsap group and NL will be much better for this.

Pls Quote and either give a better suggestion or a reliable contact.

I do not want this strike to end, what I want is for FG to scrap that useless ASUU cheesy

Even if they call off the strike, ASUU will still strike like Messi and Ronaldo in the future grin

If the protest hold it should be titled "Scrap ASUU" and not "EndASUUstrike"

Just like the way they scrap SARS, ASUU will be the next to be scrap shocked lipsrsealed cheesy

Hahahaha, when I see youth insulting politicians I just laugh, trust me those youth will do far worse than what those old politicians are doing, the only reason why they are insulting politicians is because they did not have the opportunity to steal government money

In Nigeria if u are involved they call it connection, but if they are not involved they call it corruption cool

we need to react as early as possible, things aren't funny again with Nigerian public versities.
If you care about your future as a Nigerian student, this is the time u need to speak out.
Remember you can never be set free from what you remain silent about.
Let's unite ourselves as Nigerian students and fight this together.

nov 7th, ASUU is still on strike; Even if the strike is called off , the school calendar is already distorted, I strongly agree that online learning should be encouraged in a dire situation like this, one year already gone
