Put enough crayfish and it will overcome the test of onions
Come to think of it. There are a lot of seasoning options down south. These can be explored and set as standard for cooking meals. Crayfish as you said is another good option. It is even nutritious. If onion is unavailable, then make do with a better home grown option.

I honestly don't think southerners need to sweat over the scarcity of onions. Ever since I noticed the better taste, I have made it a point of duty to always have one Nigerian bag of rice per foreign bag not minding the fact that it is more expensive. I wouldn't have really known this difference if that foreign rice scarcity thingy didn't happen.

Don't mind Buhari. Buhari that is supposed to force every onion seller to sell it at 1 naira per medium size onion or go to jail.

You were warned about Buhari's regime. In 1983/1984, Nigerians queued for essentials, including onions.
Nigerians still "voted" for him.
Enjoy the "Change". wink

What's the complain about? So, as we Nigerians like to compare their America with Nigeria, I dare tell you that you got a good bargain fetching those 3 onion bulbs for =N=200. Those 3 will fetch you at least $1 in their America. So, do the arithmetic properly then you should know what you could have paid.

When vehicles loading onions and other agricultural produce down south were burnt down by IPOB then you should know that the market rule of demand and supply will inevitably come to play coupled with the fact that onions are not actually in season now.

If our farmers and those in the chain of getting farm produce down to us across the nation tow the wicked path of our rulers, one onion will cost a thousand naira.

So, go ahead and mange your onions, that's the sign of the time we find ourselves.

That was a very long time ago. Onions has been very costly for a long time now. Though middle-men are using this protest to RIP people off.

This is how you incite people. Onion at this time is expensive everywhere in the country and not peculiar to Port Harcourt. Sooner or later you will attribute to the something happening in Rivers State and to a tribe. We must stop creating and stoking fire everywhere for no reason.

I have stopped eating onions many months ago....
I'm encouraging my friends to do same...... It have no special value, there are many other available substitutes..... The hausas can now enjoy their onions and cow meat in peace with their families and we can now keep our money or start planting ours if need be...but I have stopped consuming the two items and I'm not ready to change my mind.

Good choice. Stopping to eat some type of food does not mean literarily starving. It just means you changed eating habit synonymous to changing any other habits.

Not too comfortable times usually birth invention out of neccessity. I notice a higher number of Nigerians have keyed into crop farming and animal husbandry either on subsistence commercial basis and this seems to have lessened the burden of hunger that this government policies brought.
